Chapter 476 Ethan was Poisoned
Penelope really didn't want to deal with Zackary. She glanced at her phone screen and hung up the call directly.
This time, Zackary was exceptionally patient. She hung up, and he called back again, going through this several times, yet he remained undeterred and enjoyed it.
Penelope was just about to block his number when her phone received a photo.
Ethan.
In the photo, Ethan lay motionless on the hospital bed, his little face as pale as paper, his lips also devoid of any trace of color.
On his hand, an IV drip was still attached. The photo was static, yet she seemed to be able to see the cold liquid, drop by drop, entering his body.
Recently, Cornelia personally taught Ethan medical skills, and last night, she even took Ethan to her place.
She trusted Cornelia, she believed that it was impossible for her to hand Ethan over to Zackary. It must have been him who used improper means to take Ethan away, and who knows how he had hurt him, causing him to be hospitalized!
Penelope's phone rang urgently again, she thought it was Zackary calling again, but surprisingly, it was Cornelia who was calling her this time.
In Cornelia's voice, there was a clear sense of guilt and anxiety.
"Penelope, I'm sorry, I... I didn't take good care of Ethan, I let Zack take him away!"
"This morning, an old friend of mine suddenly had a stroke and fainted. I was in a hurry to treat her, so I asked the servant to send Ethan to school after he woke up. Unexpectedly, he was taken away by Zack before he even woke up! I've already sent Jayden to look for him, but we haven't found him yet!"
"Aunt Cornelia, it's okay, I don't blame you," Penelope spoke softly.
Yes, she didn't blame Cornelia, she only blamed Zackary.
She blamed Zackary, cold and heartless, for not even sparing his own flesh and blood.
After hearing Penelope's words, Cornelia felt even more guilty. She was also more angry, so angry that she wished she could skin and flay the little bastard she had given birth to.
"Penelope, rest assured, I will definitely find Ethan! I absolutely won't let that bastard Zack hurt you and my precious Ethan again!"
Penelope gently hung up the phone, she didn't tell Cornelia that Zackary had already hurt Ethan. Ethan was now in the hospital, unconscious.
She also hoped that Cornelia and the others could bring Ethan back to her quickly, but she knew in her heart that it wouldn't be that easy.
This time, Zackary was determined to use Ethan as a threat against him. If he did not compromise, Ethan would only continue to suffer.
Taking a deep breath, Penelope took the initiative to call Zackary.
Perhaps it was his deliberate retaliation for her hanging up on him earlier, she had to call him several times before he finally answered the phone.
"Mr. Spencer, where is Ethan? Which hospital did you hide Ethan in?! Mr. Spencer, what on earth did you do to Ethan?! Give Ethan back to me right now!"
"Penelope, didn't I tell you, if you dare to get a marriage certificate with Everett, you can forget about ever seeing that stupid cripple again in this lifetime!"
"Mr. Spencer, I didn't allow you to hurt Ethan!"
Overwhelmed by urgency, Penelope's voice involuntarily sharpened, her body trembling incessantly, "Mr. Spencer, please give Ethan back to me!"
"Penelope, that foolish cripple accidentally ingested an excessive amount of pesticide and just had his stomach pumped."
Penelope's heart was pounding wildly, the pain was as if it had been stabbed by countless knives.
Gastric lavage...
Penelope had her stomach pumped, she knew how uncomfortable it was. Many people who attempted suicide by overdosing on sleeping pills or drinking pesticides, after being rescued and having their stomachs pumped, never dared to attempt suicide by swallowing pills again.
Perhaps death wasn't so terrifying, but the experience of stomach pumping was so unbearable that it even took away the courage to commit suicide.
Stomach pumping is unbearable even for adults, let alone for such a small child like Ethan! How much he must have suffered!
"Penelope, that stupid cripple, was really stupid! He couldn't even tell the difference between juice and pesticide, why didn't he just get poisoned!"
Zackary's words were truly vile. Penelope felt a suffocating pain in her heart and a trembling rage throughout her body.
Look, this was Ethan's biological father, her Ethan, who had suffered so much. Yet his own father still thought he was stupid and even wished for him to be poisoned to death!
How ridiculous!
Zackary, based on what you just said, you don't deserve to be called 'Dad' by Ethan in this lifetime!
Yes, you disdained to let Ethan call you dad. You only had Lola in your heart. What you wanted was only the child Lola bore for you!
Penelope clutched her chest tightly. The thought of Ethan suffering terribly during the stomach pumping, and now lying weak and pale on the hospital bed, unable to even open his eyes, made her feel as if she herself could not go on.
Moreover, she didn't believe that Ethan would be foolish enough to accidentally ingest pesticide!
Although Ethan was only four years old, he was incredibly clever, almost eerily so. If he accidentally ingested an excessive amount of pesticide, there must have been more to the story!
"Mr. Spencer, how is Ethan now? I won't allow you to hurt him!"
"Penelope, you're only interested in living with Everett now, do you still have the leisure to care about the life and death of that stupid cripple?"
Zackary paused slightly, his voice sounding increasingly ruthless and cruel, "Penelope, it was you who kept hurting that foolish cripple!"
"I said it before and I'll say it again today, you're free to marry Everett, but from now on, don't ever expect to see that stupid cripple again!"
After saying this, Zackary immediately hung up the phone.
"Mr. Spencer! Zackary!"
Watching the phone screen gradually darken, Penelope lost all her strength in an instant. Had it not been for Everett's strong hold on her, she would have already fallen to the ground.
She didn't want to let down Everett's deep affection for her, but Ethan was her life. She just couldn't, no matter what happened to Ethan.
Zackary was no longer her Zack, she had deeply experienced how ruthless he could be.
He had handed her over to other men to be ruined, and he even wanted to poison her, turning her into a living dead.
If she really had recklessly married Everett, he would surely have ruined Ethan!
Losing Ethan, she couldn't bear it!
Everett was very close to Penelope, he had also heard some of Zackary's voice from the phone call just now.
He gently stroked her back, trying to stop her body from shaking so violently.
"Penelope, don't worry, we will definitely find Ethan!"
Finding Ethan was somewhat easy, the key issue was, Zackary was unwilling to return Ethan to her.
If he had no blood relation to Ethan, it would have been a different story. But he was Ethan's biological father. Even if the police were called, they couldn't possibly forcibly take Ethan away from him.
"He wouldn't give Ethan back to me! He would harm my Ethan!"
The more Penelope thought about Ethan's untroubled face in the photo, the more distressed she became. She wished she could bear all the pain for Ethan, but she couldn't replace him.
She could only watch her precious one suffer from afar, powerless to help.
Penelope wiped the moisture from the corner of her eyes forcefully, she lifted her face to look at Everett, and spoke softly, "Everett, I'm sorry, I can't get the certificate with you today."
"Penelope, you didn't let me down, it was me who was thoughtless. Let's go find Ethan first!"
Just as Everett was about to leave, holding Penelope's hand, a soft, tiny hand grabbed the corner of his clothes. The little girl looked at him with teary eyes, "Daddy, do you really not want me anymore?"
