Chapter 381 Making Ethan Call Lola Mom!
Late-stage stomach cancer...
It was late-stage stomach cancer again!
Zackary's brows were tightly knitted. He knew, it must be a lie, but for some reason, upon hearing the words "late-stage stomach cancer", his heart still felt as if it was being crushed by a massive stone.
Yet, it felt as if someone was gripping my heart tightly, causing a tearing and wrenching pain.
"Late-stage cancer?!"
Zackary suppressed those inexplicable emotions in his heart, "Penelope, your tactic of playing the victim in front of men is as clichéd as ever! You couldn't possibly have bribed the doctors in this hospital like last time, lying to Kemp that you have late-stage cancer, could you?!"
"Zackary, don't be too harsh, she wasn't pretending to be pitiful, she..."
"What's wrong with her? You mean to say, she's really sick, right?" Before Kemp could finish his sentence, Zackary had already cut him off, "She couldn't possibly have stomach cancer! She would only use such a method to gain men's pity, to achieve her filthy and despicable goals!"
"Zackary, you are the filthy one!" Kemp was furious, his eyes red as he glared at Zackary. He just couldn't understand. How could someone with such clear and profound eyes see the world in such a murky way!
"Kemp, forget it."
Penelope really didn't want to listen to Kemp and Zackary arguing anymore, it upset her in a way she had never experienced before.
Seeing Penelope's face looking terribly unwell, Kemp's face was filled with worry. He didn't continue to argue with Zackary, instead, he quickly stepped forward and nervously grabbed her hand.
"Penny, how were you? Did you feel uncomfortable anywhere?"
Penelope shook her head gently, turning her face to look at Zackary with calm eyes.
"Mr. Spencer, you're right," I admitted, "I do enjoy playing the victim. I'm not sick, I'm perfectly fine. I bribed the doctor to deceive Kemp, all to gain his sympathy!"
"Penny!" Kemp was heartbroken hearing Penelope belittling herself like this.
Penelope didn't look at Kemp, but continued to speak to Zackary, "Mr. Spencer, as you know, I'm a person with ulterior motives, and what I like most is to disguise. I'm lying!"
Penelope tried hard to appear indifferent and nonchalant in front of Zackary, but when she spoke, a thick mist of restraint still welled up uncontrollably in her eyes.
She took a deep breath, regaining her voice, "Mr. Spencer, I'm filthy and disgusting, I have no shame, I know all of this. However, as I said, no matter what I, Penelope, am like, it has nothing to do with you anymore!"
"Mr. Spencer, my affairs are no longer any of your concern."
"Ethan, he has nothing to do with you either." Penelope paused, then continued, "You want to fight for Ethan's custody, right? Fine, I'll fight you to the end!"
"Mr. Spencer, rest assured, even if I, Penelope, were to die, I would never hand over Ethan's custody to you!"
I wouldn't give you and Lola the opportunity to bully or hurt Ethan.
This was the last thing I could do for Ethan.
Listening to Penelope repeatedly saying it had nothing to do with him, Zackary felt so suffocated that he could hardly breathe, especially when he heard her mention death, it hurt him so much that he almost felt like dying.
He almost couldn't resist the urge to rush to her, to hold her tightly in his arms. But seeing the dazzling diamond ring on her ring finger, in the end, he managed to suppress this impulse.
What good can a woman be, who, after having agreed to someone's marriage proposal, still entangles herself with a married man!
It was nothing but a cheap, shameless chicken!
Staring fixedly at the diamond ring on Penelope's finger, Zackary's gaze grew colder inch by inch. The words he spoke were even colder, enough to freeze water into ice.
"Penelope, you thought I cared for that stupid cripple?! I just hated that my, Zackary's things, were always coveted by others! You killed the child of me and Lola, the child you gave birth to, from then on, could only be Lola's child!"
Ethan could only be Lola's child...
Penelope's little face turned pale as a sheet. The thought of Ethan being forced to call Lola "mom", and being tormented by her in various ways, made her heart ache as if pierced by a thousand arrows.
"Zackary, I wouldn't let you take Ethan away!"
"Penelope, that depends on whether you have the ability or not!" After saying this, Zackary turned around, his body radiating a cold aura, and walked towards the outside of the hospital room.
Zackary walked so slowly that he was freezing, in fact, he walked extremely, extremely slow.
He hoped that Penelope would suddenly get out of bed, throw herself into his arms, hold him tightly, and say to him, "Zack, I was wrong. Let's start over."
As long as she was willing to swallow her pride, to say something sweet to him, to coax him, he would definitely cross mountains and rivers, walk up to her, and go through fire and water for her.
He could forgive her flirtatious nature, as long as, from then on, she only wanted him, Zackary, he would forgive her.
However, she didn't want him, Zackary.
She was willing to shamelessly flirt with any man, but not him, Zackary!
Zackary had almost exhausted all his strength before he managed to leave Penelope's ward. Looking at his empty arms, he felt as if his heart was also empty, causing him such distress that he hunched over.
He only knew to hate Penelope, he blamed her for being heartless, he blamed her for not caring about him. He didn't know, at that time, she actually didn't even have the strength to get out of bed.
"Penny..."
Seeing Penelope's pale face and her body unable to stop trembling, Kemp's eyes were filled with obvious worry. She didn't want him to worry, so she gently raised a smile, "I'm fine. This day, it was bound to come."
Penelope knew that given Zackary's personality, even if he didn't love Ethan, knowing his background, he wouldn't have let him stay by her side.
She didn't have much time left, she didn't want to fight for anything anymore, but Ethan, she couldn't let go.
Couldn't let it happen even if it killed me.
Upon receiving the news of Penelope's hospitalization, Corona also quickly rushed over, and accompanying her was Wilton.
After asking the doctor about Penelope's health condition, Corona couldn't stop shedding tears.
Afraid that Penelope would feel upset, Corona tried hard to hold back her tears while chatting with her in the hospital room. After she fell asleep, Corona could no longer hold back her tears.
Afraid that her crying would disturb her, she quickly went outside the ward.
Seeing her so upset, Wilton's stern face was full of tenderness. He gently pulled her into his arms, carefully wiping away the tears from the corners of her eyes.
"Stop crying, Penelope will definitely get better,"
"Penelope is beyond help..." Corona sobbed, gasping for breath. Xavier had said there was nothing he could do. How could her Penelope live a long life!
Wilton didn't know how to comfort people. Seeing her in such distress, he didn't know how to console her. All he could do was clumsily wipe away the tears from the corner of her eyes, with all the gentleness he could muster.
His fingertips slid across her small face, his heart trembling uncontrollably. He dared not think that this face, marred with grotesque scars, stirred his heart more than countless flawless faces ever had.
As if possessed, he leaned down and deeply kissed her lips.
Devon came to the hospital to see Lyman. As soon as he stepped out of the staircase, he saw this scene: Wilton had Corona pinned against the wall, their kiss lingering and intense.
