Chapter 21 Sadness
"Lola, you're sick!" Penelope didn't bother to waste her time. After that, she hung up.
Penelope's heart was racing. She knew Lola would fulfill her promise and hand over the money once Chelsea was dealt with. And Penelope was desperate to secure funds for Ethan's life. But she couldn't betray her own conscience.
Penelope liked Chelsea from the bottom of her heart.
Chelsea was not only her idol but also a silver lining in her heart.
When she was young, she was weak and got sick frequently. So she was bullied by others at school. Once upon a time, she was pushed into a mud hole by several girls. Her clothes became dirty due to the mud. She looked messy.
Chelsea, who went to the school for charity, saw her. Not proud as a super star at all, Chelsea carried her out of the hole carefully. The mud got her expensive dress dirty, but she didn't care. She just asked Penelope with concern if it hurt.
Thinking of her loving, gentle eyes back then, Penelope still felt touched.
She couldn't understand why Lola wanted to kill Chelsea, who was such a nice person! She was Lola's mother!
Penelope didn't understand why Dalton suddenly let her off when he hated her so much.
Penelope wanted the truth to prove her innocence.
But she didn't have much time. She could only use her last time to raise money for Ethan. After all, nothing was more important than his life.
When Penelope was wondering how to raise money, her phone suddenly received a piece of news.
"Kemp Hunter, the eldest son of Kemp Hunter, became the new head of the Hunter Group."
Kemp Hunter?
Penelope opened it in disbelief. The handsome and indifferent man in the photo was exactly the man in her memories!
They used to support each other!
During the four years when she was kept in the dungeon by Lola and Ralph, Penelope was not alone. When she was kept, there was another man covered with blood. It was Kemp.
At that time, Kemp was almost like a broken doll. It was Penelope who massaged him and got him medicine to save him from disability.
Her left arm got crippled because of Kemp. That day, Ralph asked the guards in the dungeon to break Kemp's leg on a whim. She tried her best to protect him at the cost of her arm.
She only loved Zackary and had no feelings for Kemp. But they helped each other in the dungeon. What they had been through made them willing to sacrifice for each other.
Kemp said he would try hard to make money to cure Ethan if they could leave the dungeon.
Now, Kemp turned the table! She believed that he would be willing to help Ethan!
Thinking that Ethan would be saved, Penelope was wild with joy.
She had no idea where Kemp was living. So she got the address of the Hunter Group online and waited for him there.
Penelope wanted to go to his office, but she was refused by the receptionist without making an appointment. She had to wait in the underground garage of the Hunter Building.
She finally saw Kemp at sunset.
Seeing him walk out of the elevator, she walked over fast and grabbed his arm.
"Kemp, I finally found you! Where have you been after you left the hotel? Why didn't you contact me and Ethan?"
Grabbed by Penelope, Kemp paused. In an instant, a sense of cold covered him.
"Miss, please mind your behavior."
Kemp shook off her hand coldly and frowned slightly with impatience.
Penelope looked at him in disbelief. Kemp, who was like her family, actually forgot about her?
Just then, she noticed a beautiful woman by his side.
Penelope knew that woman. She was Lola's best friend, Pennie Rogers.
Pennie held Kemp's arm gently. "Kemp, do you know Penelope Sullivan? She seems to be close to you. If you have other girls around you, I'll be jealous!"
Kemp grabbed her hand and put on an amazingly gentle face.
"Penny, I only want you!"
Penny...
Penelope was shocked. In the dungeon, Kemp had called her Penny. But now, he couldn't recognize her and called another woman Penny. What was going on?
Penelope felt that it was a trick of Lola and Pennie. When they were in school, they did many bad things together.
Seeing that Kemp was leaving hands in hands with Pennie, Penelope hurried to follow. "Kemp, I'm Penny! What happened? How did you forget about me and Ethan? Kemp, Ethan is so sick. He..."
"Ah!"
Before she finished her words, Pennie staggered and fell on the ground weakly.
She raised her pretty face with a grievance. "Penelope, what's wrong with you? Why are you pestering my fiancé? Why did you push me?"
"Penny!"
Kemp hugged Pennie carefully with concern in his eyes.
Kemp's look was familiar to Penelope at that moment. He was gentle and handsome.
But when Kemp looked at Penelope, he put on a cold face. "Penelope, apologize to Penny!"
"I didn't lay a hand on her! She stumbled on her own!" Penelope pointed towards the functioning cameras in the parking lot and asserted, "Check the security footage! Once you watch the video, you'll see who is at fault!"
"Kemp, it hurts..."
Pennie's adorable face looked pitiful as she frowned in pain as if she had been really upset.
Kemp's eyes turned cold. He warned Penelope with impatience, "Apologize!"
Penelope raised her head, staring at him like a stranger.
Kemp had a gentle face.
Every time she saw him, she would feel that he was a real gentleman.
But after months of separation, he was no longer a gentleman but a cold man.
Kemp used to protect her all the time and would rather starve to save her food. Now, however, he couldn't tell right from wrong. It made Penelope so sad.
Just as she wanted to defend Penelope, her knees hurt. Kemp kicked her knees hard.
