Chapter 393 He Also Ruined Ethan!
Ethan sat motionless by the hospital bed, as if he had lost his soul.
"Ethan..."
Penelope gently called out to him, but he remained rigidly seated on the edge of the bed, as if he was in a world of his own. An invisible barrier seemed to have been erected around him, separating him from everything else in the world.
"Ethan!"
Penelope stumbled forward to him, gripping his small hand tightly. He still kept his head down, neither crying nor laughing, silent.
Seeing Ethan in this state, Kemp couldn't help but furrow his brows.
Last night, he had come to see Ethan. At that time, Ethan was lying in bed with his back to him. He spoke to him a lot, but he didn't respond at all.
He thought Ethan was mad at him, refusing to talk to him. He never imagined that Ethan would end up like this.
"Ethan, what's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell again?" Kemp asked, grabbing his other hand with concern.
Ethan still didn't lift his head, as if he hadn't heard Kemp's words at all.
"Ethan, look at me, I'm your mom!" Penelope's eyes were filled with tears as she choked out the words to Ethan, "Ethan, I'm okay, I've come back. Ethan, can you say something to mom?"
Upon hearing Penelope's words, Ethan finally slowly lifted his face.
However, his little face, which was always filled with radiant smiles, was now completely desolate.
It was as if a brilliant pearl had suddenly lost all its radiance.
In his eyes, as shiny as black grapes, there was not a trace of focus to be found. It was as if he was not a living person, but a soulless rag doll.
Ethan glanced at Penelope, then quickly lowered his face.
It was he who hurt mom, he had no face to face mom.
He didn't even know that his mother was so seriously ill, yet he kept causing trouble for her.
Now, it's even making it impossible for mom to live.
"Ethan, don't be like this, can you talk to mom?"
Seeing Ethan like this, Penelope felt heartbroken, so heartbroken that her eyes turned red.
Seeing Penelope's red-rimmed eyes, Ethan was also heartbroken. He slightly moved his lips, wanting to tell Penelope, "Mom, I'm okay."
He still wanted to say to her, "Mom, I'm sorry."
But when he opened his mouth, he couldn't make a sound.
It seemed that, that day at the door, after hearing Xavier and the others say that Penelope was dying, he just couldn't make a sound.
His mother was the most important person in his life. Apart from the time he fell off a cliff, he had never been separated from his mother. Without his mother, there was no light in Ethan's life.
Even the light was gone, what was the use of this sound!
Seeing Ethan's mouth opening and closing without making any sound, both Kemp and Penelope's faces were filled with seriousness.
Penelope gripped Ethan's small hand tightly, "Ethan, you..."
"Mom, I'm sorry."
Ethan picked up the children's phone next to him and typed another line, "It's all Ethan's fault, Ethan hurt mom."
"Ethan..."
Kemp stared incredulously at Ethan's pale, thin face. Ethan, unbelievably, was actually rendered speechless!
His fingers abruptly clenched, pain spread across his ink-black eyes, the person who should apologize the most, was him.
It was he who cut off Penny's last lifeline, it was he who gave Ethan such a severe shock that he couldn't even speak.
The most unforgivable person was him, but he didn't understand why, after making so many mistakes, he was still standing here just fine, while the once wonderful Ethan and Penny had turned out like this?!
The most damned person, it was him, Kemp!
"Ethan, I'm sorry, I'm sorry..."
Kemp's lips trembled as he spoke over and over again, "Ethan, I'm sorry, I've let you and Penny down, I've forgotten you and hurt you time and again, I even hit Penny with my car..."
"I deserved to die a thousand deaths! I was never worthy of your forgiveness..."
Tears shimmered in Ethan's eyes, such a small child, pure and kind-hearted.
Kemp had captured him, used him to threaten Penelope, and even caused his beloved mother to suffer such severe injuries. He truly resented him.
But in the end, he just couldn't bring himself to hate Uncle Kemp, whom he loved so much.
Just like mom said, Uncle Kemp had simply forgotten them.
Remembered their Uncle Kemp, he was always the best Uncle Kemp in the world.
He forgave his Uncle Kemp, but he could never forgive himself.
Ethan couldn't speak, he couldn't utter a word of forgiveness to Kemp. All he could do was extend his thin, bony little hand and gently touch his face, silently telling him that he didn't blame him.
He didn't blame Uncle Kemp, who was even closer to him than his father.
The moment Ethan's little hand touched his face, Kemp's heart was instantly engulfed by a tumultuous wave of pain.
He knew, Ethan was telling him, he had forgiven him.
His Ethan, just like his Penny, were both so, so kind. They were too forgiving, yet he had hurt the two best people in the world.
They were also the two people he cared about the most.
"Ethan!"
Kemp pulled Ethan and Penelope tightly into his arms, holding them so close, so tight. In this life, he thought, he wanted to cling to them tightly, never to part again.
With a glance down, Kemp saw the diamond ring on Penelope's left ring finger.
Her left hand was missing a pinky finger, but her left hand was still beautiful.
The pink diamond ring, on her ring finger, shone brilliantly. He knew, it was the engagement ring Everett had given her.
He loved her, more than anyone else did, he didn't want her to be with any other man.
However, in this world, the person who was least qualified to stand by her side was him.
Everett gave her all his tenderness. He trusted her, protected her, loved her. Only he was worthy of possessing her wholehearted sincerity.
The bitterness stung his heart, but Kemp still murmured softly to himself.
Everett, I didn't compete with you for Penelope.
But if you dare to make my Penelope frown even a little, you and I will be irreconcilable!
After discovering that Ethan couldn't speak, Kemp sought a doctor and had him thoroughly examined.
After examining Ethan, the doctor kept shaking his head.
There was nothing wrong with Ethan's body, he couldn't speak, it was a heartache.
As for what exactly the heart disease was, everyone knew it in their hearts.
Penelope was dying, and Ethan couldn't accept this reality.
To cure Ethan's heart disease, it would only be possible if Penelope regained her health.
Keeping Penelope alive was nothing short of a pipe dream.
So, Ethan's heartache couldn't be cured.
The night was as dark as ink.
It seemed as if a demon, baring its teeth and claws, had shrouded the night sky.
After Penelope fell asleep, Kemp instructed the caregiver to watch over her carefully, and then he left the ward.
He thought, during the last moments of her life, he wanted to stay by her side every step of the way, but there were some people he still had to deal with properly.
He had to go, to deal with Pennie.
