Chapter 396 Penelope, I wanted to kiss you

Penelope knew that one day, Cornelia would find out about Ethan's background. So when she asked, she wasn't surprised.

"Yes, Ethan was the child of Mr. Spencer and me."

"Penelope...."

Actually, Cornelia wanted to say, "Penelope, is there still a chance for you and Zack?"

However, thinking of all the good things Zackary had done for Penelope and Ethan, she was too ashamed to ask.

She didn't know if Penelope liked Everett, but she could tell that Everett really, really liked Penelope. The way he cherished and cared for her reminded her of how Jayden had been good to her.

With Everett, Penelope was very, very happy.

Cornelia surely had her own personal motives as well, she hoped that her precious grandson could have a complete family.

But she was not that kind of obstinate matriarch, she knew how to respect others, let alone, she truly treated Everett, who lost his parents at a young age, as her own child. She couldn't break up a loving couple for her disappointing son, Zack.

"Penelope, rest assured, no matter who you chose, I would support you."

Cornelia looked deeply into the eyes of the upright Everett, then spoke, "Evey is a good kid, Penelope, you have such good taste! You and our Evey, you must be happy!"

Upon hearing Cornelia's words, Penelope couldn't help but feel surprised. She hadn't expected her to bless her and Everett so openly.

Cornelia, truly a good person, it was unknown how she and Jayden could have produced a morally blind child like Zackary!

"Aunt Cornelia, thank you. I will definitely be happy," Penelope said softly.

Sometimes, two people being together didn't necessarily have to involve love. Even if the rest of her life was really short, she would still strive to treat Everett well and take responsibility for the path she had chosen.

After hearing Penelope's words, Cornelia was happy for her finding happiness. However, when she left, she couldn't help but let out a soft sigh.

Penelope had found happiness, but her foolish son was still stuck in his own world, refusing to come out no matter what.

The last time Penelope was rescued by Xavier from a big fire, the treatment method he used the most was to let her soak in medicinal baths.

Just like before, as soon as Penelope entered the courtyard, Everett directly carried her to the soup pool in the backyard.

In the soup pool, a considerable amount of valuable medicines were added. Those medicines, blended together, couldn't cure Penelope's condition completely, but they could alleviate her pain to a certain extent.

Quietly soaking in the soup pool, Penelope's thoughts were racing. In an instant, she thought about a lot of things.

Actually, she had been particularly nervous during her two days in the hospital, fearing that she would receive a subpoena from the court.

Unexpectedly, she did not receive any subpoenas or phone calls from the court in the past two days.

Although Zackary hadn't rushed to sue her for Ethan's custody, she still felt uneasy. She was afraid that he would come up with new tactics to snatch Ethan from her.

Penelope still couldn't muster much strength at the moment, however, she believed that after soaking in medicinal soup for a few days, her body would be able to improve slightly.

She was actually quite satisfied with her current physical condition.

Many people in the late stages of cancer were confined to their beds, unable to take care of themselves, and suffered from incontinence.

She was very grateful to Xavier, for allowing her to live the last part of her life with dignity.

Even if there was only one month left, at the very least, she could still stand and walk like a normal person, instead of having to lie in bed waiting for death.

Even, after a few days, she could go to the film crew to shoot, doing her best to properly complete that role.

In fact, both Everett and Kemp wished that she would stop acting and take a rest.

But that feeling of quietly waiting for death was truly too despairing, Penelope didn't want that.

She thought, even if she could only live for one day, she wanted to do some happy, meaningful things like a normal person.

She really did like that character, she thought, wanting to leave something behind in this world during the last stretch of her life.

"Penelope, how did you feel? Were you cold?"

The soup pool was surrounded by transparent glass, it was warm inside, but Everett was still worried that Penelope might be cold.

"Mr. Murray, I'm not cold," Penelope gradually regained her thoughts, she lifted her face to look at Everett standing by her side, and spoke softly.

"Penelope, my grandfather and I have already chosen the date, the eighth of next month, we will get married."

Penelope's eyelids drooped halfway, her gaze slowly falling on the diamond ring on her left ring finger.

When she initially accepted Everett's proposal, she was fully committed to marrying him. But now, upon hearing him mention marriage, she couldn't help but feel a pang in her heart. It felt somewhat empty, and there was a faint, almost imperceptible pain.

Once, she was extremely persistent about being Zackary's wife. Even if she died, she hoped that the words "Zackary's wife" could be engraved on her tombstone.

At that time, she was about to become someone else's wife.

She was dead, and on her tombstone, it would only be engraved as Everett's deceased wife.

Zackary was no more.

"Alright," Penelope spoke as if she was sleep talking.

She had been hurt and burdened by others, leaving a lifelong pain etched into her soul. Therefore, she didn't want to burden anyone else anymore. Even if it meant her death, she wished to give her unrequited love for Everett a sense of completion.

Even though she had accepted his proposal, Everett was actually always nervous inside. When he heard her just say yes, he, a usually calm and composed man, was surprisingly overjoyed like a young boy experiencing his first love. He wished he could hold her tightly in his arms, letting the whole world know that they were about to get married.

"Penelope, I will treat you well! I will definitely find a way to cure your illness, we will never part in this lifetime!"

Everett wanted to hug Penelope so much that he jumped straight out of the soup pool and held her tightly.

Cornelia left her bag in Xavier's backyard and she called Zackary to bring it back for her in the evening.

During the day, Cornelia had been working near the herb field in the backyard. When Zackary entered the backyard, intending to bring her bag to the herb field, he saw Penelope and Everett tightly embracing each other in the soup pool inside the glass house not far ahead.

Ha!

Mandarin ducks playing in the water?!

Zackary was so angry that his chest started to hurt again. He pressed hard on his chest, which was aching as if he was about to die, and quickly walked towards the soup pool ahead.

Everett and Penelope each had their own thoughts, neither of them noticed Zackary's approach.

Everett originally, truly just wanted to hug Penelope, but as soon as he got close to her, he was like under a spell, unable to resist wanting to do more.

His Adam's apple rolled violently, and his rich and pleasant voice was also tinged with a noticeable hoarseness.

"Penelope, I wanted to kiss you."

Saying so, he lowered his face, his lips, like a ball of flame, quickly adhered to hers.
