Chapter 114 The Hatred for Zackary
"Mr. Hilliard?" The nurse who was removing a pillowcase turned her face, glanced at Penelope, and spoke lightly.
"Yes, it's Mr. Hilliard! I heard that he has passed the critical stage, is he much better now?"
"Mr. Hilliard has already left!" Another nurse spoke indifferently, seeming not very willing to deal with Penelope.
Penelope's heart suddenly lurched, "Gone? What do you mean, gone?!"
"Once you leave, you're dead! You'll never come back!" The nurse glanced at Penelope impatiently, continuing to strip the bed cover, clearly not wanting to deal with Penelope anymore.
Left...
It would never come back...
Penelope's heart had completely fallen to the bottom.
Her tears, like pearls off a broken string, kept falling, unstoppable no matter what.
She truly wished that the call she had just received from Justin was merely a boring prank. However, the two nurses also said that Lyman would never return, they couldn't possibly be playing a joke on her with Justin.
Lyman, truly, would never return again.
In an instant, all the strength was drained from Penelope. She helplessly crouched on the ground, hugging herself tightly, but her body was still so cold that it wouldn't stop shaking.
She had promised him that she would marry him when he woke up.
She was dressed up, being his most beautiful bride.
But yesterday, she was forced by Zackary.
Was it because she was not faithful enough to him that God punished her, causing her to lose him forever?!
But even if it was a punishment, it should have been her, the one covered in filth, who was punished. How could Mr. Hilliard, the wonderful Mr. Hilliard, warmer than the sun, have closed his eyes forever?
Trembling, Penelope pulled out her phone from her bag, wanting to call Justin to ask where Lyman was.
But she had called him several times, and he didn't answer any of them.
Unable to find Lyman, Penelope could only leave the hospital like a walking dead.
The weather was getting colder and colder, the biting cold wind was like a knife scraping against the face. Penelope, who was usually so afraid of the cold, was completely oblivious to all of this today.
She walked stiffly, step by step, on the road. She didn't know where she could go, or where she should go.
Suddenly, her phone rang. She thought it was Justin returning her call, but to her surprise, it was actually Ryan who was calling her.
There was a clear note of regret in Ryan's voice.
"Lady Fairy, I'm sorry, I couldn't sign the contract with you today."
"Lady Fairy, you truly were the perfect embodiment of love in my heart, but Zackary... well, he threatened me with my family's business. In the end, I was still afraid of power and had no choice but to choose Lola."
"Lady Fairy, I'm sorry. I know my actions don't deserve your forgiveness, but I sincerely wish you all the best and hope you continue to thrive! I also believe, with your talent, you will definitely become the brightest star in Goldwald and even the whole world!"
After hearing Ryan's words, Penelope couldn't articulate exactly how she felt.
Hate?
Hated, hated Zackary.
Why complain?
The one to blame, was also him.
Lyman had always hoped that she could become the spokesperson for love, shining brilliantly. She also thought that even if Lyman was gone, at the very least, she could fulfill his last wish, secure the endorsement, and be a dazzling Penelope for once.
Unexpectedly, she succeeded in the audition and was about to sign the contract. However, due to Zackary's interference, she ultimately let Lyman down.
"Lady Fairy, were you listening to me? I know, hearing this news, you must be very upset. I also feel particularly sorry for you, Lady Fairy, I'm sorry, I sincerely apologize to you."
"It's okay." Penelope repeated again, as if sleep talking, "It's okay."
She didn't blame Ryan, she really didn't.
She knew better than anyone how powerful Zackary was. If he wanted to obstruct something, there was no way for Ryany to change it.
"Lady Fairy, I'm sorry."
Penelope didn't blame him, which made Ryan feel even more guilty. "Lady Fairy, I am a person who doesn't keep promises, I really despise myself!"
"But Lady Fairy, the spokesperson for love, I can't decide, but I can decide the heroine of my movie! I will definitely invite you to be the heroine in my next movie!"
Thinking of something, the tone of Ryan's voice suddenly became somewhat low, also carrying a bit of worry.
"Lady Fairy, I heard about Lyman's situation, don't be too upset!"
So, Ryan had also heard about Lyman's death!
Later, Ryan said many, many comforting words to her, but she didn't hear them clearly.
Her heart was filled with only one thought, Lyman was really not coming back. Mr. Hilliard, who had given her the most genuine warmth and treated her as the best girl in the world, was really never coming back...
Penelope didn't even know how she got back to Horse House. As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, she saw Justin standing at the door of the small apartment.
Justin held a delicate urn in his hands, his entire being filled with sorrow, as if he had aged a dozen years in an instant.
Seeing Penelope, he stepped forward and placed the urn in her hands.
"Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Hilliard had requested Mr. Dalton Hilliard to agree to bring his ashes to you before his death."
Justin choked up for a moment. He lifted his face, trying hard to hold back his tears. After taking several deep breaths, he finally regained his voice.
"Ms. Sullivan, Mr. Hilliard truly adored you," he said. "He expressed his desire to protect you through thick and thin. Please, take good... take good care of him."
After saying this, Justin abruptly turned around and quickly rushed towards the elevator.
The moment he turned around, Penelope clearly saw, his eyes, at a speed visible to the naked eye, rapidly turning red.
Penelope's eyes were also terribly red. She was trembling as she held the urn in her hands, as if afraid she might accidentally drop it. She quickly cradled it in her arms.
This was Lyman's urn.
A vibrant, flesh-and-blood person had died, only to be reduced to a handful of ashes.
Opening a door, such a simple action, yet Penelope fumbled with it for over ten minutes before she finally managed to open the front door of the small apartment.
She thought that if she had contracted that disease, she would be the first one to go.
Unexpectedly, she hadn't died yet, but the people she cared about the most had all left her one after another.
She didn't even know if she could find them on the road to the underworld.
Penelope covered her mouth tightly, not allowing herself to cry out loud.
Lyman had said, he didn't like her crying, he liked seeing her smile.
So, in front of him, she couldn't cry.
Just as she was about to enter the door with the urn, Lola's voice, heavy with resentment, rang out behind her, "Sister, aren't you going to invite me in?"
Saying this, she didn't wait for Penelope to react and had already taken the lead in entering her small apartment.
