Chapter 20 Let's Make a Deal

Penelope's heart skipped a beat. She didn't want Ethan to know her illness for fear that it may have adverse effects on his surgery.

She pretended to be joyful and pinched his face. "Ethan, you heard my conversation with Zack, right?"

Seeing Ethan nod, Penelope chuckled, "Silly boy, I lied to him. You watch TV a lot. Those girls play pitiful too. I used the same trick to win him back. But I failed."

"Mom, are you serious?" No matter how smart he was, he was just a three-year-old kid, who couldn't understand adults' tricks.

Penelope rubbed his head. "Of course! Lies make your nose longer. I don't want a long nose on my pretty face!

"Ethan, don't worry. I'm fine. I'll watch you grow up into a real man!"

Suddenly, the door to the ward was pushed open. Zackary entered to get the car keys left on the table and left coldly.

When he turned around, he smiled mockingly at Penelope with strong disdain in his eyes. Apparently, he heard her white lies that were intended to comfort Ethan.

Penelope looked down bitterly. Since Ethan was still there, she put on a bright smile.

However, Ethan, who had been quiet in her arms, suddenly got emotional. He was like an angry beast, suddenly rushed at Zackary, and even bit his wrist fiercely.

"You bad guy! You are mean to my mom! You're a bad guy!"

Ethan almost used all his strength to bite him. In a blink, blood came out of his wrist.

Penelope worried that Zackary would hurt Ethan, so she hurried to pull Ethan away. But Zackary was faster. Before she could reach them, Ethan was thrown away.

Seeing that Ethan curled up on the ground like a broken doll, Penelope felt heartbroken as if she had been pierced by a knife.

Zackary had no mercy in his eyes. He looked down at Ethan condescendingly with disgust and disdain. "You're biting off more than you can chew!"

"Ethan!"

Seeing that the bandage on Ethan's leg turned red with blood, Penelope didn't have time to argue with Zackary, who had left. She hugged Ethan tightly and rang the bell in a hurry, shouting, "Doctor! Help!"

The wound broke again, which brought Ethan great pain. Ethan sweated on his forehead in pain. But he gritted his teeth to prevent himself from moaning.

Ethan didn't want to worry his mother, whom he loved the most.

"Mom, don't cry!"

Ethan reached out his bandaged hand to wipe the tears from her eyes slowly. "It doesn't hurt! I mean it. Lies make my nose longer. See? I didn't lie! I'm totally fine!"

Hearing this, Penelope cried harder. Ethan hurriedly wiped her tears. "Mom, sorry. My bad. I didn't protect you. I caused trouble."

Penelope turned her head, in order not to look at her crying face.

How could her son be wrong?

He was the best boy!

She was determined to raise 160 thousand dollars for his surgery before she died no matter what she had to do!

Lola had been restless since she pretended to be sick.

She learned big news from her confidant.

Chelsea, who was diagnosed to be in a vegetative state, woke up once after the treatments by Cornelia Shearer, a great doctor.

Although she only remained awake for less than a minute, she would wake up again.

Chelsea even said a sentence when she woke up.

"Don't hurt Penelope Sullivan."

So Dalton, who loved his wife so much, still followed her words and didn't put Penelope in jail even though he wished he could tear Penelope apart.

Thinking that Chelsea might wake up again and tell the truth, Lola was so anxious like a cat on hot bricks.

She must do something.

Usually, Dalton stayed in Chelsea's ward all the time. Lola didn't have any chance to do anything to Chelsea. But today, something big happened to the Hilliard family. So Dalton had to leave. It would be a great chance for Lola.

Lola believed that she was lucky. When she came here, the two nurses taking care of Chelsea were not in the ward.

The doctor said the oxygen mask on Chelsea's face must be kept, or she would die without it.

Lola quickly walked to Chelsea's bed. As long as she took off Chelsea's oxygen mask, Chelsea would die. Those secrets would be hidden forever!

Lola reached out, planning to take off her oxygen mask. Then she noticed some security cameras giving out red lights in the ward.

Her hand paused. She adjusted Chelsea's oxygen mask craftily. Even if her action was recorded by the camera, people wouldn't think she had bad intentions. People would think she wanted to adjust the mask.

"Mom, sorry. It's my fault. If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have been like this!"

Lola grabbed Chelsea's hand, shedding crocodile's tears. "Mom, wake up! If you can't wake up, I'll never forgive myself! Mom, please wake up!"

As she spoke, she could clearly feel Chelsea's fingers moved, which startled her. Luckily, Chelsea didn't wake up.

Lola knew that Chelsea would wake up soon. She must make Chelsea disappear from this world!

Smart, Lola soon had an idea.

She decided to go to Penelope.

Lola knew that Penelope needed money. Money talked. As long as she promised to give Penelope a lot of money, she would have no other choice in order to save Ethan!

Soon after she returned to her ward, she called Penelope.

She sounded proud.

"Penelope, let's make a deal!"

"Lola, what's your trick?"

"Penelope, I know you need money. You need 160 thousand dollars for Ethan's treatment. I can give you 160 thousand dollars and hire the best experts in the world. I promise Ethan will be fine!"

Penelope didn't refuse. Lola knew she was swaying. Lola continued, "As long as you take off my mom's oxygen mask, I'll save Ethan! Penelope, this is his last chance. Do you want him to die or my mom to die?"
