Chapter 36 Lola, I'll Marry You

Zackary was in a daze, reminiscing about his joyful and carefree teenage years.

The lovely Penelope nestled in his arms like a cute kitten. She said, "Zack, I want to marry you! Will you marry me?"

He pondered, "How did I respond back then?

"Oh, I said yes. I told her, 'Penelope, I just want you.'"

However, this was just a sweet memory now. She had changed so much.

The girl he once wanted to marry had killed their child, arranged for someone to harm him, and had another man. Only he took it seriously.

He couldn't control himself with this unfaithful woman.

"Zackary, you don't want to marry me, do you?" Zackary didn't respond, leaving Lola somewhat nervous.

"It's okay, Zackary. I've said that even if you don't want to marry me, I won't blame..."

"Lola, I'll marry you!"

Zackary interrupted Lola, "Lola, we can have an engagement next week."

Engagement?

Lola was so elated that she hugged Zackary's neck tightly and was about to kiss him.

However, Zackary was stunned and evaded Lola. "I'll bring the car here, Lola."

Lola faced rejection again. Disappointed, she consoled herself that she would marry Zackary soon, and they'd have plenty of time together. Thinking of this, she couldn't help but smile.

After Penelope changed her clothes in the locker room, she intended to talk to Lyman.

"Penelope, it's noon now. You must be hungry. Let me take you to lunch."

"It's okay, Mr. Hilliard."

Penelope subtly avoided Lyman's attempt to grab her and said, "Mr. Hilliard, I want to talk to you."

"Penelope, we can talk while having lunch. You're so slender. You need regular meals."

Lyman tried to grab Penelope's hand again.

"Mr. Hilliard, I've been married before."

Lyman froze. After a while, he managed to smile, "Penelope, are you kidding me? You're so young. Have you graduated from high school? How could you be married?"

"Mr. Hilliard, I have a child who is three and a half years old."

Staring at Lyman's stiffened face, Penelope continued, "Mr. Hilliard, I'm 22 years old. I graduated from school long ago. You're really kind to me, but I'm not worthy of you. Mr. Hilliard, I believe you'll meet a good girl in the future. I hope you'll be happy together."

Lyman's eyes gradually filled with sadness. Penelope felt sorry, but she still turned around and walked away.

She wasn't a sentimental girl, but seeing Lyman upset made her feel breathless. It almost felt like she was facing Ethan.

Penelope thought she had informed Lyman that she had a son, hoping he would give up on her.

After all, with his status and wealth, he could have any woman he desired. He didn't need to pursue a complicated woman like her.

Unexpectedly, as she took a few steps, he tightly grabbed her hand.

Her hands were cold, but his were warm. As he held her hand, she felt warmth.

However, this warmth shouldn't belong to her.

"Mr. Hilliard, I'm sorry. I should have told you earlier. I'm sorry for wasting your time."

"Penelope, you mentioned that you were married before. That means you're divorced, right?"

Penelope didn't anticipate Lyman asking this question. For a moment, she didn't know how to respond. Instinctively, she nodded.

Lyman smiled again. He blinked his sparkling eyes.

When he smiled, two dimples appeared on his face, making him look handsome and cheerful.

Penelope observed him closely and noticed that his pupils weren't black but dark blue. She felt as if she was captivated by his eyes.

"The good thing is that you're divorced."

Lyman became happy and excited. "Both of us are single now. Why can't I pursue you?"

Although Lyman's words seemed fine, Penelope still found it peculiar. Coming from such a wealthy family, why hadn't he found a beautiful and innocent girl?

Before Penelope could ask, Lyman smiled sweetly, "Penelope, is our little one a boy or a girl?"

Penelope couldn't comprehend Lyman's thoughts and replied, "Ethan is a boy."

Lyman laughed, "Great! We're both males. I should be able to connect well with him. Ah, Penelope, where is our good boy? I believe he'll like me. Let's go. I can't wait to see him and talk to him."

Penelope was speechless. Ethan was her son. Why would he be Lyman's good boy? He was so cheeky.

Still in a daze, they headed to the parking lot. Suddenly, Lyman became nervous and lost his smile.

"Penelope, how do you find my style today? Will he like my outfit?

"Oh, what kind of toys does he enjoy? Does he prefer toy cars, animals, or cartoon characters?

"Penelope, what are his favorite foods? Sweets or spicy dishes? How about we take him out for dinner together?

"Penelope..."

Penelope was at a loss for words. He had so many questions. She didn't know which one to answer first.

She didn't even have a chance to decline him!

In the end, Lyman purchased all the toys he mentioned and some snacks. Penelope and he proceeded to Ethan's room.

Lyman assumed Ethan should be in kindergarten at three and a half years old. He didn't expect Ethan to be in the hospital.

Seeing Ethan lying on the bed with a pale face, Lyman felt saddened, as if his own son were unwell.

Learning that Penelope took care of her sick son alone, Lyman felt pity for her. He resolved to treat her even better.

Previously, only Penelope or Corona visited him. Now, Ethan saw Penelope with a man, and he was intrigued.

Ethan's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "Who are you?"
