Chapter 445 The Person I Loved was Lola!
Recently, Zackary would go to the hospital to accompany Lola as soon as he got off work.
Lola had vomited quite a bit of blood at the time, however, her injuries were not as severe as everyone had imagined.
Samuel had quietly asked the doctor, who said that she could be discharged from the hospital in a few days.
But in front of Zackary, she was either hurting here or feeling uncomfortable there, acting like a frail willow in the wind, wishing he could accompany her all the time.
Samuel didn't have much of a liking for Lola to begin with, and her affectation only made it worse. He really didn't appreciate this future boss lady.
However, being too involved, Zackary mistook Lola as a lifesaver who risked her life for him, and he was almost always at her beck and call.
Of course, Samuel couldn't tell Zackary his suspicions in front of Lola. So, after he arrived at the hospital, he mustered up the courage to call him and tactfully asked him to step outside the ward.
Samuel had actually prepared himself for rejection, but to his surprise, Zackary agreed to come out and even invited him to the rooftop for some fresh air.
Zackary agreed to go out with Samuel, not because he was overly indulgent with his subordinates, but because he was in the hospital room, staring at Lola, and having to endure her various coquettish behaviors. It was too torturous, he wanted to go outside for some fresh air.
When Samuel got to the top floor, Zackary was already standing there.
As Zackary's most loyal sidekick, Samuel had been dazzled countless times by his boss's stunning good looks. But this time, looking at his boss standing against the wind on the rooftop, as elegant as an orchid tree, Samuel couldn't help but swallow nervously.
The boss was really handsome!
He felt that he was almost twisted by the boss!
"Boss, I had something to report to you."
"What's up?" Zackary lit a cigarette and spoke indifferently.
His face, already impeccably handsome, was further enhanced by a faint veil of smoke, adding a sense of mysterious and decadent beauty. He was so attractive that it was infuriating to both gods and men.
Realizing that he was once again infatuated with the boss, Samuel quickly averted his gaze from his face and began to report in a submissive manner, "Boss, I've discovered something very strange. Elsa has paid back the two million she owed to the underground bank."
"Logically, if it was indeed Ms. Sullivan who had instructed her, and she had not completed the task, Ms. Sullivan would not have possibly paid the promised million dollars. There was only one possibility, it must not have been Ms. Sullivan who had instructed her!"
Zackary didn't speak immediately, he crushed out the cigarette in his hand that he had only taken a few puffs from.
He felt that sometimes, habit could really be a particularly terrifying monster. Before, he always tried not to smoke because Penelope didn't like the smell of smoke. As time went on, he found it somewhat uncomfortable to smoke again.
"She had said that it was Penelope who gave her the money to kill me!"
"Boss, she could be lying!" Samuel anxiously handed two documents to Zackary, "Boss, look at this, it's Elsa's repayment record. She paid a million each time, and cleared it in two installments. I really don't think it could have been Ms. Sullivan who instructed her!"
"Not Penelope? Then who could it be?!" Zackary's eyes were dark and inscrutable. His handsome face, as if carved by a cold blade, was unreadable, leaving one unable to discern what he was truly thinking.
Samuel stole a glance at him, inexplicably feeling a drop in the surrounding air pressure, but he still mustered the courage to speak, "Boss, I think it's highly likely that Ms. Hilliard is the one pulling her strings!"
Seeing Zackary remain silent, Samuel pressed on, "I believe, this is a self-inflicted plot by Ms. Hilliard!"
"Samuel, what benefits did Penelope give you that made you speak so favorably for her?!"
Hearing Zackary's gloomy voice filled with obvious warning, Samuel involuntarily shuddered. He knew that the boss was angry, he was really scared, but in order to let the boss see Lola's true face, he still plucked up the courage to speak.
"Boss, how could Ms. Sullivan possibly do me any favors! You really have a sense of humor, boss! Haha!"
Samuel gave a few awkward laughs. Seeing Zackary's eyes growing darker, he quickly covered his mouth. He glanced at him weakly and continued to speak, "Boss, I can tell that you have Ms. Sullivan in your heart. I just don't want you to wrongfully accuse..."
"Samuel, I didn't love Penelope!"
Zackary coldly cut off Samuel's words. His face, a moment ago still in the mortal world, seemed to have plunged into hell in the next second.
In his eyes, there was an unshakeable gloom, and on his face, a bone-chilling coldness, "Lola is the only one in my heart!"
"The mastermind couldn't possibly be Lola! Even if she wanted to play the victim, she wouldn't risk her own life! This time, if she hadn't been lucky, she would have died! Samuel, no one is foolish enough to gamble with their own life!"
Samuel pursed his lips quietly, wanting to say, wasn't Lola not dead after all! Moreover, her injuries weren't even that serious.
But the boss's appearance at that time was really too terrifying, he didn't dare to say this.
Over here with Zackary, communication had broken down, but Samuel didn't want his most respected boss to be continuously deceived by Lola. After some thought, he decided to report what he had found out to Cornelia.
Samuel was driving while sorting out some things he had recently found out in his mind.
During the four years that Penelope was missing and not with Ralph, he inadvertently heard something from a good friend.
His old friend, whose name was Timothy.
Timothy was a notorious playboy in Sea City, known for his lack of serious pursuits. However, having known him for many years, Samuel also knew that his friend, despite his seemingly unserious demeanor, despised lying the most.
Timothy said, Lola had not only been with him, but also with Ralph.
And Ralph loved her, to the point of near obsession.
If Ralph truly loved Lola, how could he possibly have helped Penelope harm her time and time again, even going so far as to assist Penelope in killing her?!
The greatest possibility was that it had always been Lola who was framing Penelope, and Ralph's death, very likely, was because he knew too many of her secrets. She, might have killed to silence him!
Samuel couldn't help but shudder, thinking, "Women, they're truly terrifying when they go mad!"
He was so scared that he didn't dare to fall in love!
Cornelia was teaching Ethan about herbs in Xavier's courtyard, and after Samuel called her, he drove straight there.
As the night deepened, the courtyard was brightly lit.
Cornelia was bending over, standing next to Ethan, patiently explaining to him the names of the medicines on the shelf and their effects. The scene looked indescribably warm and loving, to the point where Samuel could hardly bear to interrupt them.
It was Cornelia who saw him, waved at him, and signaled for him to come over.
Samuel had arrived, but he didn't immediately speak. Instead, he glanced at Ethan, who was standing quietly next to the medicine shelf.
Cornelia, being astute, naturally knew from Samuel's demeanor that there were things he found inconvenient to say in front of Ethan.
She rubbed Ethan's little head, "Ethan, wait here for grandma. I'm going out with your uncle for a bit, we'll be back soon."
At the gate, Samuel respectfully spoke up, "Mrs. Spencer, I recently learned a few things from a friend. I suspect that the person who hired a hitman to try to kill the boss years ago was not Ms. Sullivan, but Ms. Hilliard!"
