Chapter 357 The Wedding of Penelope and Dylan
Could it be, the pain was too much, so much that it drove him mad?!
Zackary was just about to firmly grasp her shoulders, interrogating her, asking who made her care so much about Ralph.
She joyfully addressed him, "Mr. Spencer, thank you! Thank you for coming to tell me such good news!"
Zackary, "..."
Wasn't she supposed to be heartbroken to the point of madness for Ralph? Why did he feel like she seemed genuinely happy?
Zackary looked at Penelope with a complex gaze, her eyes curved in laughter, the joy on her face didn't seem feigned at all.
Could it be, Ralph was dead, and she truly didn't feel the slightest bit of sorrow?!
Naturally, Zackary didn't like seeing Penelope upset over another man. However, thinking about how she had been colluding with Ralph for so many years, yet she didn't show the slightest sorrow for his death, he felt an indescribable anger in his heart.
She toyed with Zackary's feelings for the sake of Ralph, making him run in circles. If Ralph died, she wouldn't feel the slightest bit of sorrow. If he died, wouldn't she be banging gongs and drums in celebration?!
Yes, she was eagerly hoping for his death, so that the stupid cripple could inherit the Spencer family's fortune. It would be strange if she wasn't happy!
"Penelope!"
Zackary reached out, gripping her chin almost viciously, "You woman, do you even have a heart?!"
Penelope was utterly confused. She really didn't understand why Zackary suddenly got so angry. Could it be wrong for her to feel a moment of joy when someone who always wanted her dead was now gone?!
"Penelope, speak up! You vile woman, you have no heart, do you?!"
"Mr. Spencer, once, I had a heart."
In Penelope's voice, there was a distinct note of self-mockery, "It's just that later, my heart died."
A heart that loved him so much, died completely in the repeated hurts and misunderstandings, turned into ashes, and could never return to its original state.
Hearing Penelope's words, a pang of something unidentifiable tugged at Zackary's heart. He didn't want to acknowledge this inexplicable emotion. All he knew was that this woman was truly heartless.
She had attached herself to Everett, and his older brother, so she no longer cared about Ralph's fate.
The more he thought about it, the more uncomfortable Zackary felt. He really wished he could pounce on her and bite this heartless and ungrateful woman to death. However, he couldn't bear to hurt her that much. All he could do was to push her away harshly.
Forcing himself to maintain a cold-hearted facade, he spoke to her word by word, "Penelope, even though Ralph is dead and has paid for his actions, you conspired with him to harm Lola, don't think you'll get away with it!"
"Penelope, go to the hospital and apologize to Lola! Otherwise, for your malicious harm, I will make sure you rot in jail!"
Once again, I served time in jail...
Penelope laughed at herself and spoke lightly, "Mr. Spencer, I've been in jail, you've put me in jail. But what's the big deal about wearing out the bottom of the jail cell! After all, you've always been like this, unable to distinguish right from wrong, black from white!"
"Penelope!"
Zackary was so angry he could eat someone. He hadn't expected that Penelope wouldn't even be afraid when he threatened to put her in jail.
His eyes were as red as blood, like a furious beast, glaring menacingly at Penelope.
He knew that she, in collusion with Ralph, wanted to harm Lola's life. He should teach her a good lesson and give Lola an explanation.
But whether it was to let her go to jail or to truly hurt her, he couldn't bear to do it.
He found it incredibly funny that he couldn't bear to see a woman who had betrayed him, hurt him, and let him down, suffer the slightest harm.
He could only pick up the custody agreement from the ground and throw it at her in frustration, speaking harshly, "Penelope, I'm giving you three days! If you haven't signed it and handed it back to me in three days, I'll take you to court!"
"Penelope, if this matter goes to court, you don't stand a chance!"
After saying this, Zackary left with a feigned toughness, without looking back.
After Zackary left, Penelope held the custody agreement in her hand, lost in thought for a long time.
This time, Zackary was truly determined to take Ethan away from her.
As he said, she had absolutely no chance of winning a lawsuit against him for Ethan.
Not to mention the overwhelming power of the Spencer family, she simply couldn't compare to Zackary's financial strength alone.
She was still sick, with a disease that was quickly killing her.
No matter how you looked at it, there was no way the court would have awarded her custody of Ethan.
And it was explicitly stated in the custody change agreement that Zackary had, that once he took custody of Ethan, she could never see Ethan again.
What should she do to stay by Ethan's side during the last stretch of her life, and prevent him from falling into the clutches of Zackary and Lola?
The more she thought about it, the more her head ached. So much so that even as she watched her fan base skyrocket on Twitter, she felt no joy at all.
She couldn't think of a good way to stop Zackary from competing with her for Ethan's favor, she could only do her best to spend more time with Ethan.
In the evening, as she was planning to go to Xavier's place to have dinner with Ethan, she received a call from Cornelia.
Cornelia took Ethan to the Spencer family's villa, where she had invited him to have dinner.
Penelope really didn't want to go to the Spencer family, but she was worried about Ethan being there alone. If he ran into Zackary, he would directly detain Ethan, making it impossible for her to see him again. So, she hurriedly took a taxi to the Spencer family's villa.
When Penelope arrived, Cornelia, Jayden, and Ethan were already seated at the dining table in the living room.
On Cornelia's face, there was her usual gentle smile, giving people an indescribable sense of comfort.
When she laughed, faint crow's feet appeared at the corners of her eyes, adding an air of elegance and grace to her.
Jayden also had his usual unmovable demeanor, only, when he looked at Cornelia, his eyes carried a tenderness that could drown a person without recompense.
"Penelope, you came!"
As soon as Cornelia saw Penelope, she greeted her warmly, "I've asked Dylan, and he thinks very highly of you! Penelope, you've also said that you think Dylan is quite good. Since you both seem to like each other, then..."
Cornelia winked at Penelope, her expression clearly suggesting that she should be with Dylan.
Penelope knew that Cornelia was working so hard to match her with Dylan because she misunderstood that Ethan was their son. She didn't want this misunderstanding to continue, but she also didn't want her to know that Ethan was Zackary's seed. Therefore, she simply chose to remain silent.
"Penelope, Zack and Lola are getting married on the eighteenth of next month. What do you say, you and Dylan should join them? The two couples could have a joint wedding, double the joy, what a happy occasion that would be!"
"Cough, cough..."
Penelope really didn't expect Cornelia to bring up the wedding so quickly. She had just taken a sip of water and nearly choked.
Just as she was about to speak, to stop Cornelia from thinking so rapidly, the living room door was pushed open. Dylan, tall and handsome, walked in at a leisurely pace.
Also coming in with him was Zackary.
