Chapter 449 Beating Up Mr. Zackary!
"Aunt Cornelia, I'm sorry."
"Penelope, who asked you to apologize! You didn't owe anyone an apology, it's me who owes you one!"
She was Chelsea's best friend, she should have taken good care of her precious daughter. However, Penelope had already fallen so seriously ill, yet that little bastard from her family kept bullying her again and again.
She not only let down Penelope, but she let down Chelsea even more!
Chelsea, when you woke up, only to find that your beloved daughter was on the brink of death, how much pain you must have felt!
The more Cornelia thought about it, the sadder she became. Her tears silently rolled down from the corners of her eyes.
Cornelia had always been optimistic, cheerful, and positive in Penelope's mind. When she suddenly started crying, Penelope was immediately flustered.
She wasn't very good at comforting people, she could only softly say to her, "Aunt Cornelia, I'm really okay, don't be upset. I didn't tell you because I didn't want you to worry."
"Penelope, you were nearly dying, how could you be okay!"
Cornelia re-grasped Penelope's wrist, placing her fingertips on her pulse, intending to take her pulse again. But no matter how many times she took her pulse, all she felt was the fading life force of a dying person.
She couldn't save her.
He wanted her to survive, unless...
But that person was already dead, so, she could only be on a path to death.
Cornelia's fingertips trembled incessantly, like sifting chaff. She abruptly withdrew her hand from Penelope's wrist and turned her face away.
She was afraid that if she continued to look at the face in front of her, which bore some resemblance to Chelsea, she would cry too ugly, too embarrassingly.
Cancer, in the eyes of the world, was considered incurable, but there were indeed cases of cancer patients who had recovered or survived for a long time in this world.
She had cases of long-term survival of cancer patients on her hands.
Her younger sister, Della, was diagnosed with severe uterine cancer over twenty years ago. After she and Xavier worked together to treat her, the cancer cells in her body almost disappeared. Apart from not being able to have another child, as long as she took her medicine on time, she could live a long and healthy life.
Uterine cancer and stomach cancer, both are cancers, but the methods of treatment were not exactly the same.
Over the years, she focused on the treatment of uterine cancer, all for the sake of making Della healthier. After years of research, she had developed a fairly mature set of treatment experiences for uterine cancer. However, she didn't have much confidence when it came to stomach cancer.
She was skilled in medicine and had a good understanding. Perhaps, if she studied hard, she could also master the mature methods of treating stomach cancer. But that would take time, and Penelope didn't have that much time left.
A new drug, from development to successful testing, to being used in treatment, really doesn't happen that quickly. Even if she were a genius, it would not be possible for her to successfully develop a new drug within a month.
Moreover, judging from Penelope's pulse, she didn't even have a month left.
At most, there was only half a month's time left.
Even though the chances of her survival were slim to none, Cornelia still refused to give up.
"Penelope, don't act in films anymore! The teacher and I will treat your illness together!"
"Aunt Cornelia, I wanted to finish filming this play."
Weston knew about her illness. He had promised her that she could perform until she could no longer hold on. The end of the character she was playing was tragic death. If she really couldn't complete all her scenes, she could just leave early.
"Penelope, you're not well, you can't continue filming! Listen to me, let's focus on getting you better, okay?"
"Aunt Cornelia, if I go back, do nothing, and just lie in bed receiving treatment, how many more days could I live?"
Before Cornelia could speak, Penelope smiled faintly and said, "Aunt Cornelia, I know, I don't have many days left. Rather than lying in bed waiting to die, I'd prefer to live like a normal person and walk the last part of my journey."
Seeing Cornelia start to cry again, Penelope quickly comforted her, "Aunt Cornelia, don't be sad. Now, I am really very satisfied."
"Look, so many terminal cancer patients can only lie in bed, unable to die when they want to, unable to live on, unable to take care of themselves, even incontinent. But the medicine Xavier prescribed for me allows me to still walk, to still act normally. I really feel that I've been very lucky."
"Penelope...."
Cornelia knew that what Penelope said was the absolute truth. Even if she lay in bed every day, undergoing various acupuncture treatments and taking all kinds of medicine, it would, at most, only extend her life by three to five days.
But Cornelia, she was truly upset. In her many years of practicing medicine, aside from the tragic deaths of Raya and Felix years ago, she had never felt such a strong sense of helplessness.
She was a renowned doctor, hailed by countless people as a modern medical miracle worker. She saved countless lives throughout her life, yet she couldn't save the ones she held dear.
"Aunt Cornelia, you really shouldn't be sad for me anymore. People should live in the present, and I'm still fine now, which already makes me very happy."
Cornelia tightly held Penelope's hand. She was sick, yet she was still comforting her. This child, her understanding was heartbreakingly mature.
That little rascal from her family, how could his eyes be so blind!
After dropping Penelope off at her small apartment, Cornelia rushed back to Silverybay Estates. Jayden had just returned as well, and as soon as he entered the living room, he noticed her red-rimmed eyes.
My own wife was crying, that was unacceptable!
Jayden was heartbroken. He quickly stepped forward, embracing his wife gently and soothingly, "Cornelia, what's the matter? Who upset you?"
"Jayden, Penelope is dying! I didn't take good care of Penelope, I let Chelsea down! Sob sob..."
Throwing herself into Jayden's arms, Cornelia's tears instantly overflowed like a flood. Thinking of something, she lifted her face and hastily spoke to him, "Jayden, tell that little bastard to get back here! Immediately, right now!"
Little bastard?
Just as Jayden was about to say, "We have three little brats, which one are you looking for?" he heard Cornelia's voice, gritting her teeth, "Zackary, you little brat, see how I'm going to teach you a lesson!"
Alright, the one my wife was looking for turned out to be this little rascal, Zack.
Jayden didn't dare to delay at all, he called Zackary back with just one phone call.
Seeing Zackary walk in with a sour face, Cornelia was so angry that she picked up the feather duster in the living room and fiercely lashed out at him.
"Cornelia!" Jayden grabbed her hand, clearly trying to snatch the feather duster from her grip.
Cornelia was already fuming, and now that Jayden wouldn't let her beat up this little brat, and even took her feather duster, she was even more infuriated. "Jayden, what do you mean by this?! Are you trying to piss me off to death with this little brat?!"
"Cornelia, did your hand hurt? Look, your hand turned red. Who did you want to hit? I would have hit them for you!"
Saying this, Jayden snatched the feather duster from Cornelia's hand and without any hesitation, he started hitting Zackary with it.
Seeing Jayden didn't stop her from beating up the little jerk, Cornelia's brows finally relaxed a bit.
Zackary, who was urgently summoned back, was beaten to a state of utter confusion.
First his own mother beat him, then his own father did, and he couldn't even fight back. How unfair was that for him!
"Daddy, stop! I didn't do anything wrong, why are you hitting me?!"
"Didn't make a mistake?! Bastard! You bullied Penelope over and over again, and you dare to say you didn't make a mistake?!" Cornelia roared, her voice involuntarily lowered, and was tinged with a heavy sob, "Do you know that Penelope is dying! I took her pulse, she has late-stage stomach cancer! She is so seriously ill, and you still always bully her! Zackary, are you still human?!"
