Chapter 43 Penelope and Mr. Hilliard kissed, Mr. Spencer walked in on them.

"What?!" Lyman's eyes suddenly widened, as if he had heard some extremely terrifying tale.

In Lyman's extreme shock, Penelope recounted the entire saga of love and hate between her and Zackary.

Aside from her late-stage cancer, she had told Lyman almost everything she had experienced over the years.

She had once thought that those repressed, painful, and unbearable memories hidden in the darkness were something she never wanted to mention again in her life. Unexpectedly, opening her heart to a trusted person turned out to be such an easy thing.

After Penelope had finished telling everything, they had already arrived at Horse House.

She lowered her gaze, looking at Lyman who still had a shocked expression on his face, and continued to speak, "Mr. Hilliard, Ethan is Zackary's child. It's just that he misunderstood me too deeply and was unwilling to believe me."

"As for Lola..."

"She is your biological sister. If you believe what I've said, then believe it. If not, just consider me a madman spouting nonsense!"

"Mr. Hilliard, I know you've been very good to me, and I'm grateful for that, but we can't be together. Between us, there isn't just a Zackary, there's also a Lola. We, we're not suitable."

"Penelope, I believed in you!"

Lyman stubbornly pulled Penelope into his arms, "Penelope, there's no such thing as inappropriate, no one else matters, I like you, I want to be with you! Not just Lola and Zackary, even if there are mountains and seas between us, I'm not afraid! Penelope, stop rejecting me, can you give me a chance to take care of you?"

Tears welled up in Penelope's eyes, she hadn't expected that Lyman would like her so much.

She lifted her face to look at Lyman, her eyelashes trembling with teardrops. In life, it's truly rare to meet a man who genuinely cares for you.

She wanted to be with Lyman.

Really thought.

In the first half of her life, she loved Zackary like a moth to a flame, and it was exhausting.

Doubts over and over again, hurts over and over again, even the deepest love, would be worn away.

She particularly wished to find a man who would trust her unconditionally and support her. Even if she didn't like him at the moment, she was willing to make an effort.

Time, capable of diluting everything, could also transform an originally ordinary emotion into something unforgettable.

If she had been with Lyman, she would have fallen in love with him, he was so good. They had a lifetime together, why couldn't they have a city-shaking love affair that pledged life and death?!

Unfortunately, she no longer had the wonderful time to grow old with him.

Her life was about to come to an end.

So, she couldn't delay him.

"Mr. Hilliard, regarding..."

"Penelope, don't rush to reject me," Lyman gently stroked Penelope's somewhat messy long hair, "Penelope, I can wait, no matter how long, I can wait. So, don't rush to reject me, I'll wait for you to discover my good qualities."

Not giving Penelope any chance to refuse, Lyman gently pressed a kiss on her forehead, then quickly turned and left.

Penelope stared blankly at Lyman's retreating figure, murmuring as if in a dream, "Mr. Hilliard, I've always known, you're good. I knew it."

In the depth of the night, Zackary stood in the shadows, covered in frost. In his profound eyes, a violent glimmer flickered.

Thinking of the kiss Lyman had planted on Penelope's forehead, he clenched his fist and slammed it hard into the wall in front of him. Blood was dripping, but he was completely oblivious.

He was going to force himself on Penelope in the bathroom at that time, I was really furious.

He had been kidnapped by villains for several years when he was a child, and had suffered from severe autism. He was paranoid, twisted, violent, and his mental health was not as sound as a normal person's. Later, under the efforts of his father, Jayden Spencer, and his mother, Cornelia, his condition improved somewhat. However, after being betrayed by Penelope, his condition worsened. He could keep his composure in front of others, but he always lost control involuntarily in front of Penelope.

Thinking of Penelope's vulnerable figure curled up in the corner, he couldn't rest easy and came to check on her. Unexpectedly, as soon as he arrived, he saw her and Lyman downstairs, whispering sweet nothings to each other as if no one else was around.

Lyman, he also kissed her.

Even though he knew, that tonight, he had made love to her, he still kissed her.

Zackary sneered, the last trace of worry in his eyes vanished completely, leaving only ruthless, cold cruelty.

Penelope's skill in attracting men was indeed impressive, making him look at her with new respect!

Why bother worrying about such a woman!

In his eyes, she was nothing more than a frivolous woman!

Aside from this, she was nothing!

As soon as Penelope returned to her small apartment, she took a bath.

But no matter how hard she scrubbed her body, those humiliating, unsightly marks still remained.

If she couldn't clean it thoroughly, she simply couldn't be bothered to continue wasting her energy.

She changed into clean clothes and planned to go to the hospital to accompany Ethan.

She picked up the bag that was on the table, just about to leave, when her legs once again felt so weak that she could hardly lift them.

Penelope collapsed softly onto the sofa. This time, it took her a good ten minutes to gather the strength to stand up again.

When she was a child, she had once accompanied her mother, Myra, to visit a relative who had cancer.

Back then, she was young and she couldn't quite remember what specific type of cancer that relative had.

But she clearly remembered how miserable her relative looked lying in bed.

Back then, conditions were quite rudimentary, with very few people using adult diapers or the like. The children of a relative in her family, in order to facilitate her excretion, had made a hole in the bed.

Underneath the bed, there was a large iron basin, filled with her excrement. Inside, it was also mixed with a lot of blood and blood clots.

She heard Myra say that the relative was in the late stages of cancer, their internal organs slowly starting to rot. The blood and clots in the basin were the result of the organs decaying.

Perhaps, once the internal organs had rotted away, death would follow.

Penelope knew, those days of utter despair and misery were drawing closer and closer to her.

Pressing hard on her stomach, Penelope took two more painkillers before she finally left the small apartment.

She had just arrived at the hospital when she received a call from Lyman. He said there was an emergency in Ostley and he had to go there. It would be several days before he could return.

Hearing that Lyman was going abroad, Penelope breathed a sigh of relief.

There was some inexplicable sadness again.

Perhaps, this farewell, the next time we meet, would be in the next life.

Hiding these emotions of sorrowful springs and melancholic autumns, Penelope pushed open the door and entered Ethan's hospital room.

Ethan hadn't gone to sleep yet, he was sitting on the bed, holding several large red envelopes and staring blankly.

It was then that Penelope remembered that Ethan had received several red envelopes tonight.

She didn't pretentiously return these red envelopes. With the money from the red envelopes, it was just enough for Ethan's surgery. She was very grateful to Lyman.

She couldn't repay the money and favors she owed to Lyman before she died. She would instruct Corona that after her death, once the institution that took her body gave her the remaining 20 thousand dollars, she should take several tens of thousands of dollars to express her gratitude to him.

The rest was left to Corona and Ethan.

Ethan was easy to soothe. After Penelope told him a few stories, he fell into a deep sleep.

Penelope was lying on the bed, just about to take a nap, when she felt a sharp pain in the back of her neck and passed out heavily.
