Chapter 423 Mr. Zackary's Unknown Love

"Zackary, I believed in Penelope!"

Everett dropped such a sentence, he held Penelope tightly and left without looking back.

Zackary, I believed Penelope...

Zackary stood still as if petrified, it took him a very long time to come back to his senses.

He really didn't expect that, even after all he had said, Everett could still say without hesitation that he believed Penelope.

But, why on earth did he trust that heartless, malicious woman?

With such irrefutable evidence laid out, what right did she have to be trusted?!

When Everett had just left holding Penelope, he clearly saw that her eyes were rimmed with red, and her almost transparently fair little face was visibly moved.

Was she so moved to tears by what Everett called trust that she wished she could throw herself into his arms immediately?

"Ha!"

Zackary gave a cold laugh, most of his body shrouded in shadows, endlessly desolate.

Samuel carefully pushed the door open and tiptoed in. Seeing Zackary in a state that seemed as if he had lost his heart and soul, he felt a slight tug in his heart.

"Boss, did we just let Mr. Murray take Ms. Sullivan away like that?"

Samuel actually wanted to say, "Boss, if you like Ms. Sullivan so much, why don't you go win her back!"

However, feeling the bone-chilling cold that enveloped Zackary, Samuel didn't quite dare to say this.

Zackary didn't answer Samuel's question. He remained in the same position as when Everett had left with Penelope earlier, as if he wasn't a living person, but merely a statue.

Samuel knew that if he asked certain questions, the boss would definitely get angry. But the boss's current state was so heartbreaking that he couldn't help but recall the boss he had accidentally seen in a photo from the Spencer family before.

Back then, the boss was still a little kid, his body covered in long white fur, even his face was veiled by the long white hair. He stood under the sunlight, a gentle halo around him, yet there was no trace of brightness on him, only the loneliness that came from hell.

The eldest in the photo seemed out of place in this world, as if he had never experienced the joys and sorrows that a living person should have. His deep black eyes lacked any focus, only revealing a pale emptiness.

The more he thought about it, the more it hurt. Samuel mustered up the courage to speak, "Boss, you've done so much for Ms. Sullivan. Why won't you tell her and let her misunderstand you?"

Mingming, the boss spent the whole day kneeling at the Hilliard family's place today, and only then did Dalton change his mind. He didn't publicize the evidence of Penelope hurting Chelsea, letting her rot in jail.

Mingming had spent an entire day on his knees, begging Dalton for the chance to deal with Penelope. However, he could never truly harm her. He was merely putting on a show to prevent Dalton from further pressuring her.

Mingming, the medicine he had just forced Penelope to drink was nothing more than a bottle full of vitamin water. Why did he have to put on such a vicious and evil front in front of her, making her both fear and hate him?!

"I don't understand," Samuel said, "the thoughts of men, I really don't understand."

"Boss, how about I go and explain to Ms. Sullivan?" Seeing Zackary still silent, Samuel tentatively spoke up, "Boss, I think I'm pretty eloquent. As long as I explain things clearly to Ms. Sullivan, she will definitely understand your good intentions towards her!"

"Noisy!"

Samuel, the single dog, originally wanted to patiently play the role of a love guru for Zackary. However, after being scolded by the boss, he was so frightened that he quickly covered his mouth in a timid manner.

The boss was really terrifying. When he frowned, he looked like the King of Hell. His small frame seemed unable to bear it, but some words were held in his heart, which was really unbearable.

Samuel still decided to risk his life and say one more thing, "Boss... Boss, don't wait until you've lost something to realize its value. Are you sure you don't need me to explain things to Ms. Sullivan?"

"Get out!"

Zackary furrowed his brows impatiently, while Samuel, small in stature, shivered vigorously. His lips stuttered slightly, but fearing that the boss would beat him to a pulp, he still smoothly took off.

As Samuel rolled his eyes and sighed softly, the tsundere and awkward man really made people both love and hate him!

The boss was so intelligent, but how come his emotional intelligence was...

Samuel kept shaking his head, thinking that the boss would never win the heart of the girl he loved if he continued this way.

He had a premonition that if the boss continued his behavior, he would definitely lose Ms. Sullivan completely. By then, the boss would surely be crying...

After Samuel left, the light in Zackary's eyes became increasingly gloomy.

Indeed, he couldn't bear to truly hurt Penelope, even with irrefutable evidence of her heinous deeds laid before him. Her actions were unforgivable, yet he would rather confront his beloved Dalton than let her come to harm.

But, the things he did, he would never let her know.

If he had explained these things to her, what would he, Zackary, have been considered?

Because of a heartless woman, he disregarded right and wrong. Even if she destroyed the person he respected the most, he would still indulge her, allowing her to act recklessly?

He couldn't do it!

He, Zackary, could love humbly, but he could not lose his most basic principles.

This was the final armor he left for his humble heart.

Everett took Penelope directly back to her small apartment.

Her health was not good, and Everett had gotten used to carrying a lot of medication with him.

In his car, the painkillers that Xavier had prepared for her were ready.

After taking a painkiller, Penelope's stomach felt much better, and her head wasn't as heavy. However, her hands and feet were a bit numb, and she didn't feel like moving.

Wanted to, snuggle in the quilt, and have a good sleep.

However, no matter how tired she was now, there were some things she had to say to Everett.

"Everett, thank you," Penelope sincerely said. She thanked him for saving her from Zackary's hands, and also for his unconditional trust in her.

"Penelope, I told you, you don't have to be so formal with me."

"Alright, then I won't stand on ceremony with you." Penelope chuckled lightly, then continued, "Everett, don't you want to know why Mr. Spencer said I harmed Chelsea?"

"Penelope, no matter what reasons others have seen, no matter what evidence they have obtained, I believe that you could not have harmed Mrs. Hilliard."

Everett stepped forward, tightly gripping Penelope's hand, "Penelope, sometimes the so-called evidence on the surface may not be true, I only trust my heart."

Penelope lowered her gaze, her heart trembling softly.

Everett and Zackary, they were really different.

One doubted her unconditionally, one trusted her unconditionally, but she was truly wicked. No matter how hard she tried, she could never fall in love with such a good man as Everett.

"Everett, thank you. You've been a great help today. It's getting late, you should head back and get some rest too."

"Penelope, you haven't had dinner yet, I'll go cook," said Everett, turning and heading towards the kitchen.

"Everett, no need, I'm not hungry. You should go back first..."

Before Penelope could finish her sentence, her stomach embarrassingly rumbled several times in succession.
