Chapter 28 He Likes Penelope at First Sight

Falling in love with someone was indeed a happy thing. Penelope figured that Lyman would only share his joy with his friends. To her surprise, she was included as well.

It was the first time she was in this situation, and for a moment, she didn't know how to react.

Not to mention that Lyman didn't play by the book.

Penelope looked at Lyman and then Wilton. One of them was lively and cheerful, and the other was calm and deep. They were of the same sex, and they actually fit each other quite well.

"Gorgeous, I'm in love!"

Seeing that Penelope had no reaction, Lyman repeated himself.

Penelope did read a lot of comics about gay relationships when she was in school, but when it came to the real world, she still found it a bit hard to accept.

Yet Lyman's face was so cute and bright that she couldn't bring herself to discourage him at all.

She pondered for a moment and then said tentatively, "Congratulations. You and Mr. Norton are perfect for each other. Although many people still have prejudice against gay love, it is always more precious to stick to your own heart."

The more she said, the easier she found it to go on. She said to Lyman sincerely, "Mr. Hilliard, congratulations to you two. This is such a joyful thing. Why don't I open another bottle of wine for you?"

Hearing her words, both Lyman and Wilton were stunned. On the contrary, Devon, who had always been aloof, chuckled.

"Wilton, tell me. When did you and Lyman fall in love? How come I didn't know?"

"Piss off!" Wilton was furious. "Even if all the women in the world were dead, heck, even if all the men were dead, I would not fall in love with Lyman, that douchebag!"

Not to be outdone, Lyman opened his mouth and said, "Wilton, who are you calling a douchebag? You are a douchebag! Your family consists of douchebags! Look at yourself in the mirror! You look so cold as if everyone is in your debt! No one wants to date you at all! I don't get it. Both Mark and Madyson are so nice. How come they give birth to you, a weirdo?"

Mark Norton was Wilton's father, and Madyson Wheeler was Wilton's mother. Afraid that Penelope would get the wrong idea, Lyman quickly turned to her and explained, "Gorgeous, trust me, I don't like Wilton! He is nothing but a weirdo!"

Penelope was a little embarrassed, thinking, "I actually got it wrong. Looks like it's gonna be a little hard for me to get a little more commission tonight."

"I'm sorry, Mr. Hilliard. I got it wrong. I apologize to you and Mr. Norton."

"That's fine. Gorgeous, you don't have to be so polite with me." Lyman was always careless. Actually, he had always felt that when he met a girl he liked, he could express his feelings very openly.

Yet right now, when facing her, he realized that he was a bit nervous and shy. He couldn't even tell her his feelings for her straightforwardly.

"Gorgeous, are you here on a work-study basis?" He couldn't pluck up his courage to confess his love to her, so he beat around the bush with a blushed face. He continued, "Gorgeous, what's your name? How old are you this year? Where does your family live? How many..."

Penelope was stunned. She felt being interrogated.

Wilton, who was always the silent type, asked out loud what was troubling Penelope, "Lyman, are you interrogating her? If you have feelings for her, just tell her. Stop being a sissy, or you'll scare her away no matter how good she is."

"Shut up, Wilton!" Lyman did embarrass himself all the time, but embarrassing himself in front of the girl he liked would be unacceptably embarrassing.

He didn't want to be laughed at by his friends, so he took Penelope into his arms directly.

"Gorgeous, I'll be blunt with you. I like you! I fell in love with you at first sight.

"In the past, I only wanted to hold two women in my life, my mom and Aunt Cornelia. And now, I want to hold you as well. Gorgeous, don't you agree that I like you very much?"

Penelope was stunned. She thought, "So, the one he likes is me?

"I've never been a narcissist. I always know I am kind of good-looking, yet he falls in love with me at first sight? Isn't that a bit melodramatic?"

As if seeing through her and knowing what was troubling her, Lyman said excitedly, "Gorgeous, don't think I'm too casual or too frivolous. I genuinely like you. I've always felt that I was missing something important, and I just felt empty. When I saw you, I felt I had found what I had lost for a long time, and my heart was complete.

"Gorgeous, give me a chance to woo you, OK?"

"Lyman, do you know who she is?" Zackary's cold voice suddenly rang out. Penelope's heart skipped a beat, and she felt a huge invisible hand firmly around her throat.

"No. I do know one thing, though. She's the woman I want to spend my life with. I have plenty of time to learn the rest!" Lyman smiled brightly. "Gorgeous, do you agree?"

"Spend your life with?" Zackary sneered, and all the viciousness in his eyes was replaced by deeper disgust. "I'm surprised that you're willing to spend your life with a whore."

Penelope heard the word "whore" again.

Even her lips were deadly pale.

She thought, "Zackary is always capable of making me desperate.

"He has called me a whore, called me filthy many times, but he has never once embarrassed me as now.

"In the face of so many people, I want to be dignified, but he doesn't even give me a chance to do so.

"Lyman has a good impression of me, and now he will despise me, too. He will think of me as a whore, which makes me sad.

"I have no feelings for Lyman, yet somehow, I just don't want him to belittle me."

"Zackary, you've gone too far. How could call her that? Although I can't beat you, I will still fight you hard!"

Lyman patted Penelope soothingly on the shoulder. "Don't be sad, gorgeous. I'm sure you're not like that. I have eyes, and I can see that you are a decent girl."

Penelope felt aggrieved, and tears rolled down her face silently.

She was loathed by the person she loved most, had her finger cut off by her best friend, and was trampled on her dignity by Ralph, the beastlike man. She really thought she was as nasty as they said she was.

It never occurred to her that someone would think of her as a decent girl.

"Gorgeous, don't cry."

Seeing her cry, Lyman panicked. He hurriedly wiped the tears from her eyes and said, obviously trying to soften her up, "Gorgeous, why don't I sing you a song? Twinkle, twinkle, little star..."

Penelope burst out laughing. His singing was awful, but it really warmed her.

She chuckled. Seeing that, Lyman sang even harder, completely unaware of the danger brewing behind him.

In the next second, loud sounds rang out.

All the wine bottles on the coffee table shattered to the floor. Naturally, Lyman heard the sounds. Puzzled, he turned around only to see Zackary's cold look, which terrified everyone present.
