Chapter 279 Penelope Was His Treasure
Zackary.
Just now, Penelope really didn't want to be kissed by Everett. His action was too sudden, it scared her silly. For a moment, she even forgot to push him away.
Unexpectedly, I was bumped into by Zackary just like that.
Hearing his angry voice, Penelope felt as if she had been caught red-handed. But on second thought, he was not her anything. Who she was close to was none of his business!
Everett heard Zackary's voice, only then realizing what he had just done to Penelope.
He laughed helplessly, realizing that his self-control, which he had always prided himself on, was no match for Penelope.
"Zackary, it's none of your business!" Everett spoke indifferently, protecting Penelope in his arms with the posture of a possessor, as if everything intimate they did together was a matter of course.
Penelope really wasn't used to being held in Everett's arms like this.
Before, she had been pressed and kissed by Everett, but that was for a film.
As an actress, she had basic professional ethics. Whatever the script required, as long as it wasn't too excessive, she would strive to achieve it.
But filming was one thing, and living was another.
No matter how intimate the interactions were in the play, they could not cross the line offstage.
She really wanted to push Everett away.
But she felt that, at this moment, if she hurriedly pushed him away, it would seem as if she was afraid of being misunderstood by Zackary, that she still cared about him. She forcefully suppressed this impulse, allowing him to hold her in his arms.
"Ha!" Zackary laughed, a wickedness spreading across his face along with a chill that quickly radiated from his body as the corners of his lips curled up.
He didn't look at Everett, but stared at Penelope with disdain. "Penelope, you really can't stand being alone! Lyman had barely left and you've already thrown yourself into Everett's arms! Your ability to juggle multiple men is truly an eye-opener for me!"
Every time Zackary opened his mouth, he had the ability to infuriate people to death.
Penelope was annoyed, but she found it more amusing.
She wanted to laugh, so she really did laugh.
Her face was truly stunning. Even though her body had not yet recovered and her complexion was pale, a gentle smile still radiated charm from her, enough to topple nations and cities.
"Mr. Spencer, whether I can't stand being alone, or I'm playing the field, what does it have to do with you! Mr. Spencer, meddling in other people's affairs will only make you disliked!"
"Penelope!" Zackary roared, his crimson eyes revealing a bloodthirsty gleam, as if he wanted to devour someone.
After glaring at Penelope resentfully for a long time, Zackary's heart suddenly softened.
She was injured, he didn't argue with an injured person.
Just as he was about to say something slightly tender, he heard Lola's voice.
"Zackary, I looked everywhere for you after I woke up, I couldn't find you. I didn't expect you to be with my sister. Zackary, I'm in so much pain."
Lola clung tightly to Zackary's arm, his body stiffened, and subconsciously, he wanted to shake her off.
But considering that Penelope was still nestled in Everett's arms, his eagerness to disassociate himself from Lola seemed rather foolish.
He turned his face, concern apparent in his eyes, "Lola, how did you get out here? You're not feeling well, are you? I'll get the doctor right away."
"Um." Lola, fearing that Zackary would be taken away by Penelope again, spoke in a soft and gentle voice, "Zackary, let's not disturb sister and Mr. Murray anymore, shall we go back first?"
Zackary's brow furrowed.
Disturbance?!
Did he, disturb this shameless woman, having a secret meeting with the man?!
Zackary's feet were planted on the ground like roots, not budging an inch no matter how hard Lola pulled on his arm.
Lola saw that Zackary only had eyes for Penelope, she was both resentful and anxious.
She had to take control of the home field.
With a swift roll of her eyes, Lola put on a pitiful and miserable facade and began to speak, "Sister, I'm sorry, it's all my fault. If I hadn't carelessly let dad know about how you've wronged me, he wouldn't have laid a hand on you. Sister, can you please not blame me?"
Indeed, after hearing Lola's words, a clear disgust colored Zackary's gaze towards Penelope.
"Lola, you don't have to apologize to Penelope! She is insidious and wickedly evil. Don't just say she was merely wrist-cutting, even if she was beheaded, she deserved it!"
"But..." Lola began softly, her innocent demeanor resembling that of a pure, delicate flower.
"If anyone should be apologizing, it should be Penelope apologizing to you! Penelope, apologize to Lola!"
Penelope really found Lola's pretense of goodness irritating. She sneered and said, "Lola, bringing your acting into real life, directing and performing all day, aren't you tired?!"
"Zackary..." Lola clung tightly to Zackary's arm, "Let's go back quickly! I genuinely care about my sister, it really upsets me when she talks to me like this."
"Penelope!" Zackary growled through gritted teeth at Penelope, "Penelope, I'm telling you for the last time, apologize to Lola! What you owe Lola, you couldn't repay in your next life!"
"Zackary, Penelope doesn't owe Lola anything!" Everett said coolly and indifferently, "She certainly won't apologize to Lola!"
Zackary squinted his eyes, cruel and cold, "Ha! Everett, being played by a woman and you can't wait to stand up for her?! Everett, how come I never noticed before, you're so stupid!"
The expression on Everett's face didn't fluctuate in the slightest, his voice still sounding as clear and crisp as a cold jade hitting the ground.
"Zackary, one day, you will understand, who exactly was the fool between you and me!"
"Ha!"
Zackary scoffed at Everett's words.
Seeing his arm still around Penelope's shoulder, Zackary's face turned even more unsightly, and the words he spoke became increasingly harsh, unable to be restrained.
"Everett, I kindly warned you, this woman Penelope is heartless, she's dirty, she's cheap, she's vain. Don't wait until she has schemed away your fortune and life before you regret it!"
"Zackary, Penelope wasn't dirty!"
Everett's voice had grown several degrees colder, his body tense, his powerful aura intertwining with the chill emanating from Zackary, instantly turning the atmosphere in the sickroom into a powder keg.
"Not dirty? A woman as fickle as water and available to all men, how could she not be dirty? Everett, you must be blind to treasure her like a gem!"
Penelope half-lowered her eyelids, she had tried hard to treat Zackary as a stranger. Listening to his indifferent words, she still felt somewhat embarrassed inside.
She thought perhaps she was being too melodramatic. Now, as she aged, she seemed to care more about her reputation. She didn't like being belittled in public.
Especially, even in front of Lola, whom she hated the most.
Look, Lola was so pleased. Upon hearing Zackary belittling her, the corners of her lips were about to reach the sky!
She really couldn't stand seeing Lola so pleased with herself!
"Penelope is not dirty." Everett repeated his words from just a moment ago, not giving Penelope any chance to wriggle out of it, stubbornly holding her small hand tightly, "Penelope hasn't wet the bed since she became an adult, she is clean, where does the dirt come from?!"
