Chapter 244 Zack, You Didn't Trust Me!
"Zack, what's wrong with you?" Penelope asked worriedly, not knowing why Zackary had suddenly changed like this.
Zackary didn't speak, his gaze was fixed unwaveringly on Penelope's small face, as if trying to penetrate it and see through her soul.
"Zack, what on earth happened to you?" Penelope stepped forward, gently grasping Zackary's large hand, wanting to give him some warmth. "Zack, can you tell me? Seeing you like this, I'm really worried."
"Heh!" Zackary sneered softly, the heavy sarcasm in his voice made Penelope's fingertips tremble uncontrollably.
Such behavior from Zackary was truly abnormal.
The worry in Penelope's heart had deepened, "Zack, are you feeling unwell somewhere?"
Zackary violently shook off Penelope's hand. His strength was too great and his action too sudden, she was unprepared and fell awkwardly to the ground.
Zackary stood still, his eyes burning red. To his dismay, he found himself unable to resist the urge to pick up this malicious woman.
In the end, he forcefully suppressed this impulse. Between his brows, a bone-chilling coldness lingered. He looked down at Penelope from a superior position. Clearly, his entire body had been swept up in a storm of rage, but his voice was terrifyingly indifferent and calm.
"Penelope, Lola slit her wrist!"
Penelope suddenly lifted her face, she didn't understand why Zackary would suddenly say such words to her, and moreover, he didn't call her Penelope affectionately, but called her Penelope in a cold manner.
"Zack...."
"Penelope, Lola was driven to the point of preferring death to life, suffering unbearably because of you. Now, are you satisfied?!"
"Zack, what on earth is wrong with you? I don't understand why you would suddenly say something like this. Even if Lola slit her wrists, what does it have to do with me!"
Penelope's ankle hadn't fully recovered yet, and the fall she just had caused the previously improving ankle to start hurting hysterically again.
Penelope leaned against the wall, trying to stand up, but her ankle hurt too much. She tried several times without success, and could only squat on the ground to alleviate the pain in her ankle.
"Act! Keep acting!" The low pressure emanating from Zackary instantly filled the entire living room. He watched Penelope with a chilling sneer, his mockery making one shudder from the bottom of their heart.
"Penelope, I wonder, how long can you keep up this pretense!"
"Zack, could you please clarify? I haven't seen Lola recently, I really don't know why she would want to slit her wrists!"
Thinking of his kindness towards her in the past few days, and then looking at the cold and indifferent him in front of her, Penelope felt a sense of inexplicable grievance in her heart. A layer of mist also welled up in her moist eyes.
"Zack, last night you said that from now on, we need to trust each other, without suspicion, without betrayal. I don't know what Lola told you, but Zack, you don't trust me. You didn't keep your promise, you simply don't trust me!"
"Trust? Ha!"
In Zackary's voice, there was a deep desolation, "Penelope, I wanted to trust you too, but your actions were simply not worthy of my trust!"
"Penelope, you are not worthy!"
Hearing Zackary's ruthless and cold voice, Penelope's face instantly turned as pale as paper.
She thought that after all the hardships they had endured, they had finally reached a sweet ending. However, all the sweetness and warmth turned out to be nothing more than a fleeting moment.
The trust between them was truly too fragile. With just a little provocation from Lola, he abandoned her without hesitation.
Suddenly, Penelope didn't know what to say. A fine, intense pain spread rapidly from her heart to her limbs, and finally, it all rushed into her stomach.
She pressed hard on her stomach, but the pain was still so intense that she couldn't stop the spasms.
Seeing Penelope's pained and pale appearance, Zackary's heart suddenly clenched, but thinking of how this malicious woman was best at pretending, his heart instantly turned as cold and hard as iron.
He lazily flicked his eyelid, a bloodthirsty gleam dancing in his eyes, making him seem even more cruel than a demon from hell.
"Penelope, are you playing the victim in front of me again?! Too bad, it's useless. I, Zackary, will never be fooled by your face again!"
Penelope trembled with pain, but even if Zackary misunderstood her again, she thought, she wanted to die with some clarity.
She took a deep breath with some difficulty and said, "Zack, why are you suddenly so angry? Can you tell me what I did wrong? What did I do to Lola?!"
"Ha! Penelope, what time is it and you're still playing innocent in front of me?!"
Zackary looked into Penelope's eyes, filled with intense disappointment and disgust, "Penelope, wouldn't you know what you've done?!"
Penelope shook her head vigorously, she truly didn't know what good she had done for Lola.
Zackary was utterly fed up with Penelope's stubbornness, he no longer had the patience to argue with her.
He clicked on the video and then furiously smashed her phone at her feet.
"Penelope, tell me, was I better or was Zackary better!"
Upon hearing the voice coming from the phone, Penelope's body involuntarily stiffened. Those unbearable past events, long since buried, surged into her mind like a tide.
Four years ago, before Zackary bumped into her and before she was forced by Ralph, Ralph had made her shoot a video.
Back then, she thought her grandmother was still alive. The words Ralph made her say, she detested them immensely, but she dared not disobey.
After saying those words, Ralph told her that her grandmother had already died. Hatred surged in her heart like a knife, wishing she could fight him to the death. Naturally, she would not be willing to cooperate with him any further.
She struggled desperately and finally managed to escape from his villa. Later, when she returned to her grandmother's house to sort out the belongings, he barged in and assaulted her. Coincidentally, Zackary walked in on them, misunderstanding her ambiguous relationship with Ralph.
She had always thought that what Zackary minded the most was the scene where he bumped into something at his grandmother's house. She didn't expect that Ralph had recorded this video before.
Penelope couldn't bear to listen any longer, she forcefully shut off the video. Just as she was about to explain, Zackary's scornful laughter echoed in her ears, "Penelope, seeing me so infatuated and manipulated by you, are you particularly proud?!"
"Ha! Expecting that stupid cripple to inherit my property?! Penelope, I'd like to see if he has the luck!"
