Chapter 212 Her Face, Ruined!
Corona was hiding behind a plane tree outside the community, she was here, seemingly wanting to secretly watch someone.
Penelope stared blankly at Corona in the distance, tears rolling down her cheeks like pearls off a broken string, unstoppable no matter how hard she tried.
At first glance, she truly thought she was dreaming. After Corona had sunk into the sea, countless times in her midnight dreams, she saw her return.
But as it turned out, all of those were just a mere daydream of hers.
She was afraid, that now, she was just dreaming.
Penelope pinched herself hard, it hurt a lot.
It was not a dream.
Wiping away the tears from the corner of her eyes with force, she instantly smiled, her eyes curving with joy. Her Corona was really still alive! She knew it, such a good Corona wouldn't die hopelessly in the belly of a shark!
"Corona..." Penelope began softly, her voice so cautious as if she was afraid of disturbing something.
Upon hearing Penelope's voice, Corona subconsciously covered her face, turned around, and wanted to run away.
Having finally seen her, it was impossible for Penelope to just watch her leave. She quickly caught up and firmly grabbed her wrist, "Corona, it's you, isn't it?"
"Corona, you're still alive, that's great!"
"Penelope...."
Corona didn't dodge anymore, she turned around, hugged Penelope tightly, "Penelope, I'm still alive! I'm back!"
"Corona, how have you been during this time? Have you been wronged a lot?" Although Corona was wearing a mask on her face and a heavy down jacket on her body, Penelope could still tell that she had lost a lot of weight.
"Penelope, I was doing well, I was washed ashore, and a fisherman saved me."
Corona gently touched her mask again, "Oh, and Penelope, I have some good news for you. I divorced Joseph. When I came back, I happened to run into Nora being chased by the underground moneylenders. They accidentally killed her, and Joseph was seriously injured. I sent him to the hospital, effectively saving his life."
"I didn't expect that he would come around and agree to divorce me. Penelope, I'm free now, I really feel so happy."
"Corona, it's good that you're back, it's good that you're back," Penelope kept murmuring.
Having thought of something, Penelope quickly grabbed Corona's hand and started walking forward, "Corona, you must be freezing after standing outside for so long! I've rented a house here, hurry up and go warm up! By the way, you probably haven't found a place to live yet, have you? From now on, you can live with Ethan and me. Ethan has been missing you."
"Is Ethan still here too?" Corona's eyes filled with intense surprise and joy, "Penelope, you and Ethan are still here, that's wonderful! When I just came back, I heard that you were gone, I was really upset. Fortunately, you both are still fine."
"Right, Penelope, I have something else to do, I'll go back first." After Corona found out Penelope's address, she originally just planned to sneak a peek at her. She was afraid that Penelope would see her face and worry for her.
"Corona!"
Corona thought she had hidden herself well, but Penelope knew her too well. She quickly rushed in front of her as she turned to leave, "Corona, why are you wearing a mask on your face?! What happened to your face?!"
"I...I'm fine." Corona subconsciously tightened her grip on her face, "Penelope, I just have a bit of a cold, I'm afraid the wind will make it worse. Penelope, you don't have to worry about me, I've found a job, the company provides us with dormitories, I'm really doing quite well now."
"Corona, let me see your face!" Penelope stubbornly spoke, "Corona, your face is injured, isn't it?!"
Corona could no longer hide it, she remained silent for a long time, gently removing the mask from her face.
When she clearly saw Corona's face, the tears that Penelope had barely managed to stop, fell down like beads off a broken string.
Corona, she actually disfigured herself!
Her originally fair and delicate face, on both sides, had been brutally slashed with a knife, leaving a ghastly cross mark!
Looking at Corona's face, marred with ugly scars, Penelope trembled with hatred.
She forcefully covered her mouth, but she just couldn't suppress the sobbing sound.
She took a deep breath for a while before she barely found her voice again.
"Corona, what on earth happened to your face?! Who did this to you?! Was it Linda and Lola, wasn't it?!"
Corona gently closed her eyes, then slowly opened them again. Pain surged in her pupils, as if she had remembered that unbearable memory again.
Corona was truly living well, even with the hideous scars on her face, her eyes still held the most captivating color.
"Penelope, it's Linda and Lola. These two lines on the left side of my face were made by Lola, and the cross on the right side of my face was made by Linda. But all of that, it's in the past now."
Corona slightly lowered her eyelids, covering all the emotions in her eyes. She didn't want to make the atmosphere too sad. She took a deep breath and forced out a big smile, "Penelope, don't be sad for me. Things will get better and better, we will be fine."
"Corona!" Penelope rushed over, hugging Corona very tightly.
"Corona, they are not human! How could they do this to you!"
Linda, Lola, Devon...
They were all beasts!
Devon brutally killed the child in Corona's womb, he also indulged Linda and Lola in repeatedly hurting and torturing her. They ruined her face and let those men defile her. Even beasts have more conscience than them!
In the midnight reverie, recalling the atrocities Devon, Linda, and Lola had committed against her, Corona would still feel such hatred that every pore ached. But to avoid upsetting Penelope, she simply brushed it off and said, "Penelope, I'm really okay, all those things, they're in the past."
"Moreover, those four men, they didn't succeed." Corona spoke in a deliberately light-hearted tone, "Penelope, when they were about to succeed, I jumped into the sea. Wasn't I clever?"
Penelope knew that Corona was trying to make her laugh, but upon hearing her say this, her tears fell even harder.
"Corona, you big fool! No matter what happens, don't ever harm your own life again, okay?"
"Fine." Corona began, feigning disgust, "Penelope, you've smeared your tears and snot all over me. You're too old to be crying like this, it's embarrassing!"
Penelope laughed through her tears, "Alright, I've really embarrassed myself, haven't I? Snot and tears all over Corona."
But she knew, Corona would never despise her.
Just as Penelope was about to take Corona back to her small apartment for a good rest, a voice filled with towering anger rang out behind them.
"Corona, you really haven't died yet?! You sneaked back just to harm Linda, didn't you?! Linda is now in the hospital because of you, are you satisfied?!"
