Chapter 160 Penelope, why wasn't it you who died!
"Penelope, who told you to cook for Everett! Are you so desperate to please men that you've lost all self-respect?!"
"Mr. Spencer, who I cook for, who I want to please, whether I want to save face or not, it's none of your business!" Penelope didn't want to waste her time talking to Zackary, she forcefully moved to close the door.
Zackary was stronger, he barged right in, forcefully pushing Penelope against the door.
"Penelope, I forbid you to cook for Everett!" He was even more adamant that she not allow Ethan to casually acknowledge someone else as his father.
"Mr. Spencer, you've overthought it. I, Penelope, don't need your permission to do things!"
Actually, Penelope wasn't specifically cooking for Everett. Ethan had a particularly good impression of him. After Ethan escorted them downstairs, he warmly invited him to join them for dinner.
Before Penelope could stop Ethan, Everett had already said "okay".
He had already said this, she surely couldn't say, "Mr. Murray, I don't welcome you to have dinner with us," could she?
Anyway, she always had to cook dinner for Ethan, having one more person to eat with was actually no big deal.
Moreover, Everett went upstairs with them, and really just had a meal. From beginning to end, he didn't say a word to her.
He was so sparing with his words that she found it hard to even utter a word of thanks.
However, Penelope wouldn't explain to Zackary, he was no longer anyone to her, explaining to him would be nothing more than a waste of breath.
"Penelope, did you learn to cook just to seduce men, didn't you?! Ha! You even let your child call Everett 'Dad', Penelope. Are you satisfied only when all the men in the world play father to that bastard?!"
Another bastard...
Penelope hadn't heard this word in a long time. Hearing it again after such a long time, she felt not only anger, but more so, amusement.
The person who repeatedly called Ethan a bastard was never anyone else, but his own biological father!
However, he had long since ceased to be worthy of being Ethan's father. From the moment he abandoned Ethan for Lola, Ethan no longer had a father.
"It was Ralph before, then Lyman, and now it's Everett! Speak! Whose bastard is that, after all!"
Meeting Zackary's crimson eyes, Penelope suddenly laughed, a laugh so enchanting and unparalleled in charm.
"Mr. Spencer, Ethan is not a bastard, he is the most precious treasure of my life! Who his father is, has nothing to do with you! But no matter who his father might be, it could never be you, Zackary!"
"Penelope!" Zackary gripped Penelope's neck tightly, he didn't know what had come over him. Before, she had shamelessly claimed that the bastard was his own flesh and blood, which made him furious. Now, she was hastily trying to disassociate herself from him, which made him even more uncontrollable with rage.
Penelope laughed even more enchantingly, "After all this time, Mr. Spencer is still as unoriginal! Other than choking me, he just reminds me to call myself Penelope, how boring!"
"Uninteresting?!" The crimson in Zackary's eyes grew even more intense, his thin lips curling up with the coldest curvature.
"Did I bore you, and Everett entertained you, didn't he?! Penelope, did you sleep with him?!"
"Cooking to please him again, throwing yourself at him again, Penelope, how the hell could you be so cheap!"
"Yes, I am cheap," Penelope's smile didn't diminish in the slightest on her face. But no matter how brightly she smiled in front of Zackary, there was not a trace of vitality to be found, only a cold indifference that seemed to span thousands of miles.
"Mr. Spencer, knowing full well that I am beneath you, yet you always cling to me. How noble can you possibly be!"
"Penelope!"
"Mr. Spencer, you've blessed me before, you wished me a good reincarnation." Penelope suddenly spoke nonchalantly, just as Zackary was about to explode.
Her voice was incredibly soft, as if she was merely stating the most mundane fact. Yet, this very softness caused an inexplicable sense of panic in Zackary's heart.
He couldn't help but recall how utterly desolate he had felt when he thought she had perished in that great fire.
In fact, he was afraid of losing her.
He couldn't love her properly, the hatred in his heart was too heavy.
"Mr. Spencer, you've been hounding me relentlessly, constantly making things difficult for me. Is it because you couldn't personally send me off to reincarnation that you're feeling unsatisfied?"
Zackary stared at Penelope with inscrutable eyes. He wanted to say, he didn't mean it, from beginning to end, he never really wanted Penelope to die.
The words were on the tip of his tongue, but they changed their taste abruptly, "Yes, there's resentment! Penelope, I really wish, it was you who died in that fire!"
"Sorry to disappoint you, Mr. Spencer!" Penelope slowly pried Zackary's hand from her neck.
"However, Mr. Spencer, your wish will one day come true!"
Zackary's pupils suddenly constricted, wish fulfilled? What did she mean by that? Did she want to fake her death again?!
At that time, all Zackary could think of was feigned death. It was only much later that he realized, Penelope was truly dying, in a way that no one could reverse. She was gradually withering, falling, her beauty fading to a skeletal state, turning joy into sorrow.
"But now, as long as I, Penelope, still have breath in me, I will live well. I will love what I love, chase my dreams, and not waste this wonderful time. However, the joys and sorrows of my life, Penelope, have nothing to do with you, Mr. Spencer, anymore!"
No longer relevant...
Zackary abruptly stepped forward, rudely grabbing her shoulder, like a trapped beast making a desperate struggle.
"Penelope, you said the one you loved was me!"
Penelope hadn't expected Zackary to suddenly say such a thing. She was momentarily taken aback, but when she recovered, she couldn't help but laugh in disbelief. Her laughter carried an ancient desolation, yet also a touch of light-hearted relief.
"Mr. Spencer, those, those were all things of the past life!"
A great fire had already burned away all her love and hatred for him. Having barely survived, what she wanted was a brand new life.
In the life she had planned, there was no longer Zackary.
However, Zackary completely misunderstood Penelope's intentions. He sneered coldly, "Ha! Penelope, you admit it, don't you?! You never truly loved me! That's why you didn't hesitate to kill our child in order to marry Ralph! Even worse, you were willing to hire a hitman to kill me, just to prevent me from revealing your past!"
"Yes, I almost forgot, what a venomous heart you have, woman!"
"But Penelope, even if you were as heartless as a serpent, I couldn't waste my hundred million!"
"Penelope, undress!"
Seeing Penelope biting her lip hard, showing no intention of backing down, the smile on Zackary's face became increasingly cruel.
"Don't want to? Ha! I almost forgot, you look down on ordinary support! You like being supported in a hardcore way!"
"Fine, Penelope, since you enjoy being kept by someone with strong tastes so much, I'll indulge you!"
