Chapter 12 Let's Divorce

Penelope was exhausted, physically and mentally. She ceased to struggle and closed her eyes as the sharp knife landed on her hands.

The moment there was nothing but darkness before her, Penelope seemed to hear someone call her name loudly.

Then, the person gently called her by her nickname.

The voice reminded her of how the indifferent young man addressed her by her nickname with his eyes full of gentleness and affection.

Penelope realized that it was only an illusion, for she missed that young man, Zackary, so much in the depths of her memory.

However, Zackary, who used to love her, had completely changed. The old him had been swallowed up in time.

It was the next morning when Penelope awoke. To her surprise, she was in Horse House, her hands intact.

Zackary stood by the window with his back to her.

Penelope asked tentatively, "Zack?"

Zackary turned around suddenly. For a moment, Penelope seemed to see his pity for her in his eyes. She was not sure if it was a mere hallucination of hers.

There was only coldness and loathing in his eyes as she tried to make sure.

Zackary sneered, "Finally, you woke up." Before Penelope could reply, he continued in a cold voice, "Let's divorce!"

"What?"

Penelope couldn't help feeling heart-wrenching. Although she knew clearly that he had forced her to marry him after they met again only to torture her, she could hardly keep calm when hearing what he had said.

She didn't care how Zackary would scold and humiliate her. She didn't want to divorce Zackary.

She wished to die as his wife.

It took Penelope a long time to accept the reality and regain her senses. She forced herself to reply to Zackary, her voice hoarse and trembling with grief.

"Zack, didn't you say you hate me and would never let me off? Didn't you say that our relationship would never end? How could you divorce me?"

Zackary interrupted her with a cold smile, "Don't you get it? I'm so sick of you and don't want to waste money and time on you."

Penelope had wanted to say something else, but a sharp pain hit her as she heard his words. She could only mutter, "Zack, I don't want to divorce..."

Zackary ignored her refusal and threw a pile of papers on her face. "Sign them!"

Penelope looked down. In an instant, the title of the papers came into her sight. There were two divorce agreements.

It was clear that Zackary wanted to divorce her so soon to marry Lola. Penelope, who was badly injured, was unable to stop him at all. However, she couldn't stand watching Lola live a happy life easily.

She would never divorce Zackary until she died.

Throwing the agreements on the ground with all her strength, Penelope lifted her chin and said stubbornly, "Zack, I won't sign them. I will never let Lola marry you before I die."

Zackary's deep eyes darkened at Penelope's words. He said extremely coldly, "Penelope, I don't have much patience. Don't try to annoy me. Sign them and divorce me. Besides, I won't give you a penny."

Penelope had wanted to resort to passive resistance, but she changed her mind when she heard his last few words.

She picked up the two agreements from the ground slowly. "Zack, I won't agree to divorce you unless you give me 160 thousand dollars. If you don't give me that, you will never marry Lola fair and square."

Zackary gave a mocking smile.

He grasped Penelope's hand suddenly.

"160 thousand dollars? Penelope, do you want the money for your son? No way! I will kill him!"

As he spoke, Zackary directly forced Penelope to hold the pen and signed her name on the two agreements.
