Chapter 1

Eight months pregnant, I was pushed from the second floor, blood pouring from me as I fell.

Alexander rushed me to the hospital in a frenzy, calling in top specialists to perform surgery. Thankfully, the baby was saved.

But when I woke up, neither the baby nor Alexander was there.

I struggled to sit up, my body aching, and limped around the hospital in search of them.

At the morgue entrance, I overheard Alexander speaking to a doctor.

"Mr. Carter, that child was still breathing. How could you suffocate it? It was your own flesh and blood!" the doctor said, his voice filled with disbelief.

"The sooner it dies, the sooner it can be reborn. It shouldn't have come into this world in the first place," Alexander coldly replied.

"Sophia just gave birth to my son yesterday. I promised her our child would be the sole heir to the Carter family. I won't allow anyone else to compete for the family fortune."

So, the life I thought we had, a happy family, was nothing more than a delusion.

The marriage I was so proud of was a cold, suffocating hell.

If that's the case, then I'll leave.

The doctor hesitated.

"But if you use Sophia's child to deceive your wife, what if she finds out?"

"Newborns all look alike. She won't notice. I'll take the baby to her soon."

"Dispose of the body cleanly. And get me that drug from your hospital, the one that can permanently sterilize a woman. I'll feed it to Olivia later."

The doctor was stunned. "Mr. Carter, you've already killed your wife's child to bring in Sophia's baby. Why do you want to sterilize her too? Isn't that too cruel?"

The morgue seemed to freeze as Alexander's words sent a chill down my spine.

"I promised Sophia that our child would never suffer. He won't have any siblings to compete for affection. Even though she's married to someone else now, I want her to be at ease."

The doctor sounded reluctant.

"Mr. Carter, I must warn you, that drug hasn't gone through clinical trials yet. The side effects are severe. Are you sure you want to do this?"

Alexander paused, then sighed heavily.

"There's no choice. Olivia will wake up soon. If we perform a hysterectomy now, it'll raise her suspicions."

He glanced down, his expression cold. "She'll just have to endure it. I'll make it up to her later, but I can't allow Olivia any possibility of getting pregnant again."

As he finished speaking, his phone rang. He put it on speaker, and a voice filled with excitement echoed in the room.

"Mr. Carter, I've received the $500,000. Don't worry, I'm leaving the city now. Your wife will never know that you hired me to push her down the stairs. Hehe."

Footsteps sounded from inside the room.

I staggered back to my bed, ignoring the pain in my leg.

As I thought of my baby's tiny lifeless body in the morgue, my chest tightened. Tears fell onto my bandaged leg, the grief overwhelming.

So, my fall at the mall wasn't an accident.

It was my dear husband clearing the way for his lover and their child.

My baby wasn't saved. It was suffocated to death by its own father.

To Alexander, I was just another obstacle to get rid of.

"Olivia, you're awake?" Alexander's voice broke through my thoughts as he entered, carrying a baby in his arms. He smiled as he sat by my bed, the picture of calm and control.
