Chapter 6
After Lucas left, I finally managed to get some decent sleep. It felt like a luxury, and I woke up surprisingly refreshed. The morning sun was shining brightly, and the air was cool, which put me in a good mood. I walked to work with a lightness in my step, feeling a sense of freedom I hadn't had in a long time.
But as I approached the office, I spotted someone familiar standing outside. My heart sank when I saw Skye. She was on the phone, her words sharp and low. The moment her eyes locked on me, her entire demeanor changed. Her face hardened, eyes turning cold, like she was ready to rip me apart.
She ended the call abruptly and stormed up to me, her eyes full of venom. "Nadia," she hissed. "You really have no shame. You've been chasing after Lucas for years, sleeping with him at every turn. Don't you feel embarrassed?"
I stood my ground, taking a deep breath. Today was different. I wasn't the same woman she could push around anymore.
"And now you're still at it," she continued, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "You seduced him into coming overseas for you."
I raised an eyebrow and flashed a small smile. "Skye, you really love Lucas, don't you?" I said, my voice dripping with false sweetness.
Her eyes blazed with rage, but I didn't flinch. "Unfortunately for you, he came to me willingly. If you love him so much, why don't you just marry him? Be the good wife you always wanted to be. Stop wasting your time on me."
Her face turned red, her hands trembling with anger. "You bitch!" she spat. "How dare you talk to me like that? Aren't you afraid Lucas will come after you?"
I laughed, the sound bitter. "If you want to make a scene, go talk to Lucas. I'm done with him. He dumped you already, wake up."
Before she could reply, she lunged at me, hand raised to strike. But I was quicker. I grabbed her wrist, twisted it, and shoved her away. She stumbled back, caught off guard.
"Say that again?" I asked coldly, stepping closer. "What do you think you're doing here, trying to boss me around?"
She charged at me again, her eyes filled with rage. But I didn't back down. I slapped her hard across the face, the sharp sound echoing between us.
"I dumped Lucas," I said firmly. "If he insists on being with me, that's on him, not me. And you? You're just a scheming fake. Drop the act."
Her face turned ashen, her lips trembling with fury. She was seething, but I didn't care. I was done with her games.
She lunged at me once more, this time fully intent on grabbing me. "What are you doing?" I shouted, but before I could react, a figure appeared from behind me.
It was Lucas. He shoved Skye out of the way with a force that sent her crashing to the ground. He turned to face her, and for the first time, I saw genuine anger in his eyes.
"Stop making a scene!" he barked, his tone icy. "Get out of here."
Then he turned to me, his expression softening, concern flickering in his eyes. "Nadia, are you okay?"
I froze, caught off guard by his question. But my anger flared. "Hurt? Lucas, how dare you ask me that? After everything? Who do you think you are to me?" I scoffed, shaking my head. "These are the consequences of your own actions. You made this mess, not me."
His expression faltered, and I could see the guilt flashing in his eyes. He lowered his head, lips pressed into a thin line. Then, without warning, he turned back to Skye, his voice harsh.
"Skye, this is my final warning," he said, his voice cold as ice. "Stay away from Nadia. She's the one I love. Stop being delusional."
Skye's eyes went wide, her face a mask of shock. "Lucas, how could you do this to me?" Her voice cracked. "I came back for you! I gave up everything for you, and now you choose her over me?"
Lucas didn't hesitate. "We're done, Skye. I made a mistake by choosing you. But now I know what I want. It's over. Leave."
I stood there, completely unmoved. I felt nothing but disgust for both of them.
"Both of you, leave. Get out of my life," I said, my voice calm but firm. "I've had enough of this. I just want to live my life. You two can deal with each other. Just don't bring it to me anymore."
And with that, I turned on my heel and walked away, not bothering to look back. Today, I was no longer the woman who would let people walk all over me. I had taken control of my life, and I wasn't going to let anyone drag me back into their mess.
