Chapter 7
Nelson stood frozen on stage, as pale as a ghost. Olivia, next to him, looked like she was about to have a meltdown, while the woman beside her had her hand over her mouth, completely shocked.
On the screen, Olivia's friend was talking trash. "Why the hell are you even cheating with him? What's the deal?"
Olivia smirked, unfazed. "Obviously, it's for the money. What else? If Edmund wasn't always gone, I wouldn't even bother. Anyway, let's hit the escort club tonight. I just got a fat wad of cash from Nelson, and I'm ready to blow it on the hottest guy there."
"Absolutely! You deserve a good time after putting up with Nelson," her friend chimed in.
The woman in the video, clearly Olivia's friend, bolted off in a panic. The truth was out—there was no mistaking it. The woman in the video was Olivia.
Nelson whipped his head toward Olivia, eyes wild with rage.
"Is this true? You've been using my money for this? You've been playing me for a fool this whole time?!"
Olivia stumbled back, shaking her head frantically.
"Baby, let me explain—"
The guests below them weren't holding back.
"He's just figuring it out now?!"
"Both of them are shameless!"
"This is a joke. He totally had it coming."
Nelson, red with humiliation and anger, pointed at the crowd.
"Shut up! All of you!"
But no one cared. A few people stood up and stormed out, muttering as they left.
"What a disgusting party. I regret even showing up."
"If I'd known, I would've stayed home."
Nelson was barely keeping it together. He grabbed Olivia's arm.
"Explain yourself! What the hell do you take me for?"
Rosina rushed in, trying to break them apart.
"Nelson, calm down! Think about the baby!"
It was clear she was hoping Nelson would let it slide for the kid's sake.
But Nelson snapped. He lunged at Olivia, desperate to snatch the baby from her arms.
"Give me the baby!"
"No!" Olivia screamed, clutching the child tighter.
Rosina tried to wedge herself between them, pleading for peace, but it only made things worse. The struggle escalated, and people on stage stepped back quickly to avoid getting dragged into the mess.
In the chaos, Rosina lost her footing and fell onto one of the stage's spotlight fixtures, the bulb shattering and embedding into her flesh.
She screamed in agony.
"Ahhh!"
Nelson and Olivia were still locked in a vicious tug-of-war. Olivia, teetering in her high heels, stumbled backward. The baby slipped from her arms.
"No!" Olivia cried, her voice filled with panic.
Nelson dove to catch the child but was just a second too slow. The baby hit the ground with a sickening thud. Nelson crashed into a banquet table, sending plates and glasses flying as it toppled over.
He hit the ground hard, unable to move, lying in the wreckage of food and glass.
Olivia, frantic and a mess, crawled toward her baby.
"My baby! My baby!" she screamed, her voice cracking with despair.
Some of the relatives in the crowd rushed to pull them apart and check on everyone. Olivia clutched the child, wailing uncontrollably. Meanwhile, someone dialed the police and called for an ambulance.
The whole room was in chaos.
I was adjusting my sunglasses, ready to dip out, when a group of uniformed cops walked in. One of them called out, "Who's Nelson? And Olivia?"
Nelson, still dazed and clutching his waist, raised his trembling hand.
"I'm Nelson..."
"And Olivia?" the officer asked.
A woman in the crowd pointed to Olivia, still cradling the baby and sobbing.
The officer pulled out an official summons and said, his tone cold, "You're both under investigation for criminal offenses. You're required to come with us."
Nelson and Olivia were frozen in disbelief as the officers began to escort them out.
I couldn't help but be impressed by Edmund's methods.
A month ago, when I finally tracked him down, I'd told him everything. He promised to take care of it. When he handed me the surveillance footage from his place, I thought he just wanted to publicly shame Nelson and Olivia. I had no idea he was going to bring the authorities into it too.
