Chapter 6

The crisp sound of the slap seemed out of place in the morgue.

Lucas, as if suffering a huge blow, took the hit without flinching.

He was slapped to the side, a red mark appearing on his face.

But this was far from enough.

Zoe, seeing that I, her biggest threat, was dead, inevitably became smug.

She was probably already fantasizing about her beautiful life marrying into the Sinclair family.

At this moment, as if to assert her position, she actually spoke up to Mr. Sinclair.

"Uncle Sinclair, how can you hit someone? Luke had no choice."

The Sinclair family had never approved of Lucas's relationship with Zoe, and her intervention was undoubtedly adding fuel to the fire.

Sure enough, Mr. Sinclair was so angry his breathing became rapid, his hand clutching his chest as he frowned.

"No choice? Is that his excuse for murder?"

Zoe's eyes shifted, her guilt evident, but she still persisted.

"Uncle Sinclair, it's all the shackles you've put on Luke. You've always treated him as a tool, he never loved Ava, it was always you forcing him!"

Her "righteous" words directly intensified the conflict between father and son to the extreme.

"Lucas Sinclair, is that what you think too?" Mr. Sinclair asked this question with difficulty, and I couldn't help but look over.

Initially, I liked Lucas, but I wasn't desperately clingy, insisting it had to be him.

If he disagreed, I would have thought of other ways to make amends.

But he agreed.

He even said that "marrying me was his long-cherished wish."

If he didn't love me, why did he deceive me?

But Lucas remained silent.

It was as expected, I wasn't particularly sad, the love in my heart had long been replaced by hatred.

Now I hope he doesn't have a good end.

"Good, good, good, what a rebellious son."

"If you insist on being with this Parker girl, don't blame me for disowning you as my son!"

Mr. Sinclair berated harshly, his eyes full of disappointment in Lucas.

He tried his best to calm his anger, turning to leave with Mrs. Sinclair's support.

But just as they reached the door, Mr. Sinclair's body gave out and he fainted.

There was suddenly a commotion at the door, the medical staff who had come quickly sought a stretcher and carried Mr. Sinclair away.

Lucas wanted to get up and go forward, but was stopped by Mrs. Sinclair.

"You'd better think about what you've done."

Even though she loved her son dearly, she knew Lucas had made a huge mistake this time.

This was also her final advice to her son.

Zoe hadn't expected things to develop like this, she was obviously scared.

"Luke, I didn't mean to, I did it all for you."

Lucas looked at her deeply, seemingly accepting her words.

But I knew him too well, there was undeniable suspicion in his eyes.

He staggered away from the morgue, almost falling at the door.

I don't know if it was due to excessive grief and fear.

Yet Zoe was complacent, completely unaware of Lucas's abnormality.

I knew that some things had changed at this moment.

I coldly watched all this, my mother was dead, I had nothing left to care about in this world.

I just opened my eyes, watching their estrangement.

On the way back, Zoe was driving, her happy expression impossible to hide.

Lucas's gaze towards Zoe had already changed, with much imperceptible annoyance added.

After all, in his eyes, Zoe should have been innocent and kind.

To show such schadenfreude at my death was truly inappropriate.

Back when we were tied up by criminals, how righteous she was.

"Luke, if you choose Ava, just knowing you is already the best thing in my life. She's your wife, I'm willing to sacrifice for the person you love."

"If possible, I hope in the next life, I'll meet you first."

Such a long, moving, and undying love.

While I was tortured by the kidnappers, covered in wounds, trembling in fear nearby.

My mouth was tightly gagged with a dirty cloth, I couldn't speak at all.

I could only watch everything happening before me with fear and helplessness.

I was afraid of death, my mother was still waiting for me in the hospital.

But the final result was that she was safe and sound, gaining my husband's pity and love.

While I was left with a body full of scars, alone in the hospital for treatment.

Watching my husband take care of someone else, I couldn't even be jealous.

The beautiful name was, "I'm helping you thank her."

During that time, Zoe even came to flaunt in front of me, saying I had taken her place.

But Lucas never believed any of this, he only believed in the brave and kind her he saw with his own eyes.

But I knew well, pretenses would eventually be exposed.

I even looked forward to the day when he would see Zoe's true face.
