Chapter 9
Jack immediately broke down. He kept struggling, but it was useless. The police had also arrived, and with the hotel's surveillance cameras capturing everything clearly, he was taken away.
My parents looked at me, "Sarah, we're sorry. We were wrong."
"Dad sincerely apologizes to you. Can you give Dad a chance to make amends? I'll hand over the company to you completely, for you to manage. How about that?"
I shook my head and took a step back, breaking free from my mother's embrace.
"No need, I'm not interested."
My mother hurriedly said, "Sarah, I know you want to do research. I'll set up a research lab for you. You can do whatever you want, okay? Sarah, give Mom a chance to make up for her mistakes."
Hearing this, I couldn't help but laugh, "Do you want to make amends for me or save Jade's business?"
"Dear Mom, Jade's stock has plummeted, Jack is bound to go to jail, your business has fallen. Now you think of using me, right?"
"It's not like that!"
My mother became anxious, but I didn't want to hear her explanation. I pushed her away and left with my senior.
Tonight's events were also captured by someone and posted online. Everyone scolded Jade Corporation again.
My mother aged more than ten years overnight. The news of Jack being taken away hit the headlines. The impact was too great. This time, no matter how much money my parents had, they couldn't protect him.
Moreover, they didn't intend to protect him, because they could barely protect themselves.
Jack was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted assault, plus his previous offenses. My parents were sentenced to four years for previously helping him evade punishment and bribing officials.
On the day of the sentencing, I left this city with the team, never to have any contact with them again in this life.
Afterwards, they still tried to inquire about me, but were turned away by Professor Lin and the others. From now on, they would never be able to see me again.
When Professor Lin relayed this to me, I nodded to indicate that I already knew. I should have guessed that Jade Corporation would go bankrupt after my father went to jail.
My mother also completely broke down. She regretted it, but couldn't obtain my forgiveness.
Ten years later, when the project ended, I got married and started a family here. My husband is a fellow alumnus. After having a child, my husband and I took a long vacation to personally take care of our baby.
Looking at our little one, I want to give him everything I have. Whatever is good, I want to present it to him.
My husband always says I'm too exaggerated, but I laugh that he doesn't understand. How can a family without love nurture confident flowers?
If it weren't for the many kind people I met along my growth path, I might have become psychologically distorted long ago. How could I have easily come to where I am today?
When he learned about my past, he couldn't help but sigh: "Sarah, don't worry. Our child will definitely not walk the old path. I will give all my love to him!"
Yes, these are normal parents. We will give all our love to him, letting him grow up smoothly under our nurturing love.
On our son's tenth birthday, I took him back to visit Professor Lin. On the way back, our son saw a toy car in the mall.
He held my hand and pleaded, "Mom, dear Mom, can I use my Christmas's money to buy it?"
"I promise I'll manage my account well!"
The little guy took out all his red envelopes and handed them to me. I pinched his cheek and took out one to agree to his purchase. He was immediately excited.
At this moment, a trembling voice asked from behind, "Sarah, is that you?"
I turned around and saw my mother. Her hair had turned white and she looked haggard. When she saw me, she burst into tears of joy, covering her mouth as she was about to come forward, but was directly blocked by my husband.
"Who are you? What do you want?" he demanded.
He had heard my mother call my childhood name, so he stood protectively in front of us.
Because I had told him I had no relatives left in this world. The only people who cared about me were Professor Lin and those friends I often met.
Therefore, my mother's appearance made my husband immediately understand.
My mother was stunned. She looked at me, but I didn't say anything. I turned and took my son inside to pay.
Seeing my reaction, she stammered, "I'm sorry, I must have mistaken you for someone else."
My husband remained vigilant, shielding me as we finished our purchase and left, the three of us together.
I didn't give her a single glance, just walked away.
Through the glass reflection, I saw her cover her face and cry uncontrollably.
She cried, saying she regretted it. But unfortunately, there's no medicine for regret in this world. I don't believe parents don't love their children, but their alternative way of showing it suffocated me.
Now I've finally broken free from those shackles and can fly freely. I choose to walk a path that makes me comfortable.
I believe in love and don't hesitate to give it. Only those who cherish mutual effort will truly appreciate it.
